As Psalm 146 states (the Psalmody for this Sunday), I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

Blessings, Pastor Moorhead Save the Dates: (Retirement Celebrations) June 22, 9am and 11:30am Martha s Retirement Receptions June 29, Bill s Retirement Sunday morning Eucharist @ 9:30am, Hymn Festival @ 3:30pm, and Banquet @ 5:30pm at Embassy Suites-LaVista. Pastor Moorhead's retirement banquet will be held Sunday, June 29, at Embassy Suites LaVista at 5:30pm. Tickets are $25/person. You will find your invitation in your mailbox in the narthex. Please make checks payable to Pacific Hills Lutheran Church and return to Joann Thompson in the church office by June 8. Your pictures which help tell the story of Pastor Moorhead's ministry are needed! His ministry covers events held within the wall of the church [baptism, confirmation, marriages, installations of church boards and recently a lay worker] in the courtyard ("Courtyard Jazz"), youth trips, activities in your homes, citizenship ceremonies for our members, various gatherings and on goes the list. His is a story about the people with whom he has made contact both as part of his spiritual ministry and as a personal friend. A picture or two of his "distinctly Bill Moorhead office" would surely be appropriate! Please place the pictures (with your name on the back of each) in the box marked for these in the church office. PHLC Mission Committee update on our friend, fellow member and missionary in Ethiopia and South Sudan, Philip Chawech. As many of you know, Philip is originally from Sudan and returned to Sudan on April 28, 2010. He has accomplished much during the past 4 years including, working on building a school in Khor Machr, assisting Pastor Jacob Nhial with Pacific Hills Lutheran Church in Ulang and establishing a non-profit corporation in South Sudan; the Maiwut Christian Charity Community Action Group (MCCCAG) which provides help to the people living in the area around Maiwut, South Sudan. Philip had made connections with the United Nations, Save the Children group which assisted the MCCCAG with funding and needed supplies. Unfortunately two very difficult issues have developed over the past year. The first came with a wind storm which partially destroyed the Pacific Hills Lutheran Church in Ulang. A picture of this church building is on the kiosk in the narthex of our church. Your contributions to the Special Mission Fund has assisted in providing the needed funds to purchase materials to rebuild the church. The materials have been purchased but now the second issue is holding up the rebuilding. The Civil War in South Sudan has affected the area around Maiwut and Ulang and made it impossible for the people to stay and live in the area. By phone, Philip has stated the fighting around Maiwut is very bad and he states many people he knows have been killed or injured. Philip and his family have moved to Gambella, Ethiopia, which is just a few miles from the border with South Sudan. He and his family and many others are basically refuges. Philip would like to return to the United States to work and send money over to help his people but needs our help. He will need a plane ticket to return plus, when he arrives, he will need a place to stay, perhaps a car and some funds to get him started until he once

again becomes self-sufficient. If you are so moved by his plight and the plight of others in this area of South Sudan, please help by making contributions to Philip through the Special Missions envelope. Thank you for your help and of MOST IMPORTANCE, please pray for Philip, his family and all of those in South Sudan who are suffering once again. May God put an end to this violence and bring his people together. PHLC Foundation Scholarship Reminder: Scholarship applications are available in the church office for members attending Lutheran schools (preschool, grade school, high school, and Kingdom Workers ). Please submit your completed applications by June 30th to Sara Young (narthex mailbox J-19) or Joan Workman (narthex mailbox J-5). Brand New Bible Study! Your Tuesday noon BibleStudy@Lunch in Room 115 is starting the new study, 1 Corinthians: A New Way of Thinking for God's Church. Paul's first epistle to the Corinthians contrasts the wisdom of God with the wisdom of the world and then demonstrates how this "new" way of thinking comes to life. These "drop-in" studies are designed so that you can come any week you are available, so bring a sack lunch and be fed on God's Word any time! If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Schneider. We are in immediate need of communion stewards, both to set-up and clean-up. Please look at the signup sheet on the kiosk in the narthex. If you are interested, but just need a little training to spur you on, please contact Carla Horton. Thank you in advance for all assistance. Again, this year we will host two Courtyard Jazz concerts - Sundays, June 15, July 20 and August 17. These are held in the evening from 7pm to 8pm in the courtyard. We are looking for funding for these two events. The cost to do this is $800. Please turn in any donations to the church office. Pastor and Martha are graciously hosting our Sunday, August 17, cook-out and Big Band jazz concert at 5pm. We thank them. Schedule: June 15 Steve Raybine Band, July 20 Pete Madsen Quintet, August 17 Omaha Big Band,LTD Pacific Hills Lutheran Church has reserved a block of 40 tickets for Lutheran Night at Werner Park as the Storm Chasers take on the El Paso Chihuahuas on Monday, June 23 at 7:05pm. Tickets will be $1 and may be picked up at the PHLC office beginning Monday, May 12. Please contact Pastor Schneider if you have any questions. Lamb of God Preschool is now accepting registrations for the 2014-2015 school years. There are sessions for children ages 3-5 years old. Call 402-391-2288 or email Kay Storck at LambofGodPreschool@PacificHillsLutheran.org. More information can be found at our website www.lambofgodpreschool.org. Lamb of God Preschool presents Kingdom Camp Summer Camp June 9-13, 9am to noon, Monday through Friday. There will be all kinds of medieval fun for your little prince or princess! Cost for the week is $75. Children must be ages 3-5 and potty trained. For more information call 402-391-2288. To register go to LambofGodPreschool.org. Parish Nurse Notes For any mother who wants to feed her infant, there is a rocking chair and screen for you to use in the library. The Catechism Corner The Sacrament of the Altar Who receives this sacrament worthily? Fasting and bodily preparation are certainly fine outward training. But that person is truly worthy and well prepared who has faith in these words: "Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins." But anyone who does not believe these words or doubts them is unworthy and unprepared, for the words "for you" require all hearts to believe. Readings for Sunday, June 1: Acts 1:1-11; Psalm 47; Ephesians 1:15-23; Luke 24:44-53

Events of Other Congregations and Agencies Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church is having two fundraisers for their Vacation Bible School (taking place the evenings of July 13-17.) Please tell family, friends, and coworkers attend on Thursday evening and place their receipt in the special box. Food, fundraising, and fun! How can it get better? On June 29, Bethany Lutheran Church will celebrate its 75 th anniversary as a congregation, during a 10am worship service. Former Bethany Pastor, William Keller, will be the guest preacher that day. The theme will be Luke 24:50, Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands He blessed them. (ESV) A time of fellowship, a short program, and a luncheon will follow the worship service. Please RSVP by June 15 to the church office at 402-558-6212 if you will be attending. Habitat for Humanity-Help Build a House PHLC is a member of the Neighbors South Coalition a part of the Habitat for Humanity community in Omaha. The coalition began construction of a new house at 2451 S. 17 St. on April 11, 2014. By the end of July the house needs to be done! That means a lot of help is needed! The house is for a mom and her children. Coalition member reprs met Martha Lopez and her family at a pre-build dinner a few weeks ago. They are a very pleasant and appreciative family! You can help this effort in one or more ways: 1. Pray for our Lord s blessings and guidance in this effort to help our neighbor. 2. Work on the house - You can volunteer for as much or as little as you like. Most of the work by volunteers is done on Fridays and Saturdays. Each of the work days has a morning session and an afternoon session. 3. Help with preparing/serving food to the volunteers. PHLC has committed to provide the food for the volunteers working on June 13th & 14th. 4. Contribute Money If you wish to help build the house, Habitat has an online procedure for sign up this year. Here is the site address: https://habitatomaha.volunteerconnect.com/neighborssouth//full

This link lists the days of work planned and a general idea of the type of work planned for that day. All of the volunteer work days are Fridays and Saturdays. You can sign up for a half day or a full day. The last column on the right shows the status of how many worker slots are available for each specific date. Pick the date or dates you are interested in and check the box or boxes. Go to the next screen. There you will be asked to enter your email address and password the first time you sign up. The next step asks for an address and phone and an emergency contact. You will also be asked to sign a waiver form online. (Waiver forms are also available at the work site). One of the last sign up steps asks if you are a member of an affiliated organization. The 2nd category which is: Are you affiliated with one of the following religious congregations? shows Neighbors South as an option. Choose that option. If you have questions, give me a call or send me an email. Lynn Wegehaupt (402) 917-6910 (cell) omahawege@gmail.com Another good contact for questions is our coalition's volunteer leader: Fred Beschorner (402) 572-1884 oldbbplayer@msn.com Thanks for your help, Lynn Wegehaupt, PHLC Coalition Representative
