Short Term Teams 2019 Unleashing Hope for the Most Vulnerable SPRING SPAIN Service Trip February 2019 (2 weeks) Do you enjoy working with your hands and completing projects? This team will help increase the capacity for ministry of one of OCC partners in Spain, Monte Olivos. Monte Olivos is a retreat center for Muslim workers serving in the Middle East and North Africa. It is a place for workers to receive training and find rest. This coming year they are putting in a new building in an effort to be able to bless even more people who are serving in Muslim ministry. The team will help with some of the finishing touches in order to expedite the launching of this new building. Projects may include painting, furnishing rooms, and landscaping. The efforts of this team will be a tremendous blessing to this ministry.

PUERTO RICO Rebuilding Lives & Homes March 2019 (10 days) OCC desires to continue to respond to the needs that prevail in Puerto Rico from the devastating Hurricane Maria. Join this team to link arms with families who are still recovering and trying to rebuild their lives. The team will partner with a local ministry to help rebuild homes for 1-2 Puerto Rican families. This trip will be labor intensive and construction experience is required. MIDDLE EAST March or April 2019 (2 weeks) This trip entails providing training to Kurdish and Syrian refugees at two community centers/schools in the Middle East. The possible training and volunteer opportunities desired could be around teaching English, music (especially violin), personal health, dance, soccer, business training, computers, theological training, medical training (dentists & hygienists needed) or other income generating ideas. The priority is to provide practical support and tools to Syrian refugees and the Kurdish people so they can find better employment or have the opportunity to launch their own small business which will help them find financial stability and an opportunity to move out of a life of poverty. The team will also have the opportunity to visit a few refugee camps as well. *SAN DIEGO FAMILY TRIP Refugee Outreach April 7-13, 2019 (Spring Break) Are you looking for a way to engage in your children in a cross cultural experience without having to leave the country? Then this is the trip for you! We will partner with Kaleo Ministries www.kaleomissions.org and work alongside refugees and low income families in the heart of San Diego. The team will have the opportunity to serve in various capacities reaching out to refugees from Southeast Asia, East Africa, Burma, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Bosnia, Kosovo, the Former Soviet Union

and other war-torn regions of the world. A portion of our program will be running a Kids Club (Bible story, games, songs, crafts, etc) for refugee children. We will get to show them love, listen to their stories, offer friendship, and shine the light of Jesus. What a wonderful opportunity to connect family to family! (Minimum Age - 8 years old) *CHILE Construction Approx. Dates: April 5-14, 2019 (Spring Break) This trip is for anyone who enjoys serving through participating in an actual hands-on project! Our team will work together with our partners, IAM ministries, in Chile to help with the construction of a church in a small community called Melipeuco. In this community, there is a growing local church led by a Chilean pastor who has a deep passion to reach out to meet the needs of the indigenous Mapuche communities around them. The church meets regularly in a rented facility, but their biggest need right now is to have an actual structure of their own to meet in. In addition, we will participate in various outreaches to build relationships with the beautiful people in this community. KENYA SM High School Trip Approx. Dates: April 5-15, 2019 (Spring Break) As many of you are aware, our church is championing a tremendous ministry in Kenya which rescues children from the streets and reconciles them back into families. We have partnered with Agape Children s Ministry who have successfully reintegrated around 2,000 street children in the city of Kisumu back into loving families. Because Agape s model was so successful, Overlake is investing in helping to replicate the model in the city of Kitale. This team will come alongside this ministry in Kitale, encourage the workers, reach out to children both living at the center and on the streets in Kitale, as well as learn about the water and agricultural development projects being developed to help

communities who are receiving these children. This trip will be a life changer and a once in a lifetime opportunity! THAILAND Anti-trafficking Prevention & Instruction Classes April or May 2019 (12-14 Days) This trip will focus in two different cities in Thailand. In the first city of Pattaya we will be serving with our OCC partners, Not Abandoned, at their Employment Education Center by providing training and coaching in classes such as English, computers, bakery, health and personal care, as well as other practical courses to women who are currently trafficked into the sex industry. We are seeking team members who have a skill in these areas to come and help equip these young women. In the evening, the team will participate in evening relational outreach with women working in the bars. The second city the team will be going to is Korat, located in northeastern part of Thailand. Here the team will focus on doing sex trafficking prevention work in schools, villages and small communities by sharing a film depicting the realities of city life and holding conversations with parents. Team members will also have opportunities to teach English and bakery lessons to young girls. ETHIOPIA Pastor s Training April or May 2019 (1-2 weeks) Do you love teaching the word of God? Want to encourage others in the ministry? We re looking for 1 or 2 people to join our team training pastors and leaders in Ethiopia.

SUMMER SPAIN & NORTH AFRICA Practical Service and Ministry Exposure Approx. Dates: June 1-15, 2019 (2 weeks) This trip will briefly have the opportunity to visit Monte Olivos, an OCC partner ministry in Spain, which provides a place for workers from the Muslim world to come for discipleship training. The team will get to meet, encourage and interact with students from all over the middle east, north Africa and Europe. The team will then spend the majority of their time visiting several cities in North Africa to focus on encouraging our ministry partners there and learning about their projects. We will specifically come alongside and better equip workers who are caring for children with disabilities. We are seeking a few medical professionals who have a heart for children with disabilities, especially any Physical Therapists or Occupational Therapists to join this team. This trip will emphasize relationship building with workers and believers from a Muslim background and you will surely walk away with a greater vision for the world around you! SOUTH AFRICA Approx. Dates: June 20-July 1st (10 14 days) Join a team of volunteers in S. Africa to serve in vulnerable communities affected by HIV/AIDS. Our partner there, ithemba Lethu, has developed a peer-to-peer leadership program for 13-16 year olds in their community. The team will have an opportunity to pour into the lives of youth workers by offering encouragement, mentorship and support. We will also be linking arms with Glenridge Church, one of our partners, and together we will serve the local community in whatever capacity would be a blessing to the city. This trip will be a rich cultural and learning experience. We will be staying in the homes of local church members, sharing life together, and witnessing firsthand the reconciliation that has occurred

over the years in South Africa. Undoubtedly this trip will leave a lasting impact on your life. *KENYA The Kitale Project July & November 2019 (2 weeks) As many of you are aware, our church is championing a tremendous ministry in Kenya which rescues children from the streets and reconciles them back to families. We have partnered with Agape Children s Ministry who have successfully reintegrated around 2,000 street children in the city of Kisumu back into loving families. Because Agape s model was so successful, Overlake is investing in helping to replicate the model in the city of Kitale. This team will come alongside this ministry in Kitale, encourage the workers, reach out to children both living at the center and on the streets in Kitale, as well as learn about the water and agricultural development projects which help support communities who are receiving these children. This trip will be a life changer and a once in a lifetime opportunity! (Children 12 years and older welcome with a parent.) INDIA Dates: TBA FALL Join this dynamic team to experience beautiful people, culture, cuisine, and ministry in India! This team will be working with two of our OCC partners. The first will be encouraging OCC sent missionaries who are looking for a team to pray strategically for work happening in their city. The second will be working with a dynamic Indian leader who has a strong church planting movement and is involved in developing leaders who are reaching India for Christ.

THAILAND, REDLIGHT PATTAYA Anti-Trafficking Training & Outreach October 12-25, 2019 REDLIGHT Pattaya training and outreach is an exciting opportunity to reach out and make a difference in lives trapped in human trafficking. Participants are fully exposed to the raw realities of human trafficking but also are directly involved in developing relationships with victims of trafficking by helping them exit the life of oppression and bondage. The goal is to see ladies reached and placed in job training programs and opportunities. Participants will meet girls, women and men victimized by trafficking and hear their stories as they visit their places of work in a city where this issue is most prevalent. PERU Medical Mission Approx. Dates: Nov. 2-11, 2019 Calling all medical professionals who have a heart to use their medical skills to impact people around the world, we need you! During this trip we will come alongside our partners, IAM ministries, to address some of the medical needs in the town of Tacna, Peru. Healthcare in this area is unreliable and expensive for the local people. The churches we are working with in the area desire to bless their community by offering people affordable healthcare. On this team we will help offer general health screenings in several locations throughout the city. We are seeking doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dermatologists, optometrists just to name a few. There can be a lot of unique opportunities to serve here so let us know what skills you have and we can see how we can put them to use! THE HOLY LAND Peace & Reconciliation (18-35 year olds) November 2019 OCC has a heart for social justice, peacemaking, and relationships. We desire to continue to grow that heartbeat by offering an opportunity for folks to gain new

perspective through visiting the Holy Land. We are using the platform and relationship we have with Churches for Middle East Peace as a key partner. Facilitated by professional conflict resolution specialists and religious leaders, this inspirational trip will not only be an eye-opening spiritual pilgrimage to the Holy Land to see people and places in Israel and the West Bank, but it will also explore the Biblical themes of reconciliation and social justice. We will also be discovering the powerful connection between faith and practice and spirituality and action, all while exploring the land of the Bible. The team will learn from both Israeli Jewish and Palestinian guides and guests, who will create opportunities to learn and discuss religious, political, and economic issues facing the region. PLEASE NOTE: Additional trips may be added in the coming months! Check www.occ.org/stw for the most updated list and for further information.
