Come by the parish office for an itinerary sheet and more information. It is Time Again to Pray for Vocations This week the Catholic Church in America will celebrate Vocations Awareness Week. Recently all our parishes received a poster showing us the names and faces of our 24 Seminarians. Our goal is to have 50 by 2025. This goal is doable. Our Director of Vocations, Fr. Brian Alford has done an outstanding ministry in seeking, attracting, and encouraging these young men and yet there are so many more out there just waiting for the call. Initially it is the Lord who does the calling, but He also uses Fr. Brian, and all of us to be the vehicles through which He invites. Can you imagine this? When I was in Africa I was told by Fr. Wenceslaus that in his diocese 20 men are accepted for the Seminary each year. This is phenomenal! Guess what.. 1200 men applied. The Holy Spirit is alive in the Catholic Church in Africa for sure! Many men are listening, discerning, and seeking.. but so many (1180) were NOT YET accepted. What can we do here at St. Anthony and St. Mary s through our parish and schools to better foster vocations to the priesthood, consecrated religious life for women and men, the permanent diaconate, and other vocations? With the 150 history celebration of our schools going on, can we make a conscious effort to seek out and encourage, to find both a male and female vocation to enter this next year representing our 2 parishes? We have a great history in our two parishes for fostering vocations. Recently I sat with Sr. Carolyn Sur, a Notre Dame sister, originally from St. Anthony, entering in the 1950 s. We have had so many wonderful women religious, as well as Fr. Ben Meyer, Fr. Braden Maher, Fr. Jim Flach, Fr. Allen Kemme and Fr. Art Thies, just to name a few from St. Anthony who have dedicated their life to serving the Lord and His Church. I have heard that from St. Mary s we have had Msgr. Aloysius Schwartz, and +Bishop Carl Kemme along with Sr. Albertine Kramer. This weekend we will have Peter Chineke, a third year theologian, visiting with us again. God willing he will be ordained a transitional deacon in the class of 8. Peter is from Nigeria, and from a village near where I visited last week. I was able to meet his parents and two of his siblings. It was incredible! In our bulletin cover, we have placed the photos of Zach Samples, Peter, and Deanery Seminarians, so like the poster we can promote, pray for, and encourage their success. I would like us to make a commitment to them as their diocesan church family and will talk to the pastoral council and finance council meetings about this commitment. We hope to certainly keep promoting vocations at our schools and PSR program. This truly is one of our church s main ministries and concerns. Thanks to great folks like Fr. Brian Alford who give so much to fostering vocations. Let s show him our support and do our part as well, for we must always remember, Vocations are Everybody s Business!!! - Peace, Fr. Chuck 2

CCW Meeting Nov. 6 @ 7 pm November Committee: Joyce Hoene, Melissa Broeringmeyer, Leslie Kemme, Shirley Zacha, Dorothy Thomas, Christy Brown, Jane Emmerich Family Connection Mark 12:28b-34 As Christians, our moral behavior is guided by the two-part commandment taught by Jesus in today s Gospel: love God and love your neighbor as yourself. Many of us learned to use this framework as an examination of conscience. By examining our lives through the lens of these commandments, we have learned that the challenge of these commandments is not in our desire to follow them but in our capacity to consistently honor these commandments in our daily lives. For one week, identify and collect news reports of how Christians show their love for God by loving and serving their neighbor. Clip these news items and share what you have heard when you gather as a family. Read together today s Gospel, Mark 12:28b-34. Talk about ways in which your family might contribute to the examples of Christian service you found. Choose one of these actions to do together as a family. Conclude in prayer together asking God to help us show love to our family members and friends. Pray together the Act of Love. Act of Love O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of those whom I have injured. Amen. It is time for a new PARISH DIRECTORY!!! Words cannot express how thankful I am for your steadfast prayers, cards, gifts, and well wishes. It is such a blessing to be supported by such a wonderful parish. I also wanted to make you aware of National Vocation Awareness Week, which takes place from November 4-10. This is an annual week sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to invite the Church here in the US to continue to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, consecrated religious life, and Holy Matrimony. Pope Saint John Paul II opened his Pontificate with these words, "Do not be afraid! Open wide the doors for Christ!" In a particular way, pray for the young men and women of our Diocese to have the courage to not be afraid and to open their doors to whatever it is that our Lord is calling them to do, and that He may continue to bless us with an abundance of priestly vocations. In closing, thank you again for your continued prayerful support. Please know of my prayers for you now and always. It is always such a joy to hear from parishioners, so please do not hesitate to drop me a line. My contact information is below.
