CHARITY UNITY FRATERNITY PATRIOTISM THE NEXT COUNCIL MEETING WILL BE MONDAY, JUNE 9, 2014 @ 7:00 PM, PIUS X CENTER Dear Brother Knight, The final month of our fraternal year is here already! We have had a tremendously active and productive year with only one remaining activity to complete for our Service Programs. Council 599 will be holding a cookout following the end of year clean-up for the St. Bernard s School children, their family members and the staff on Wednesday, June 4 th. Volunteers are needed and should plan to arrive by 4:30 PM! Please sign up on the council website or email me if you can help! Thank you! Regarding the completion of our Service Programs, I am happy to report that the required form has been submitted to Supreme for Council 599 to be recognized as a. This certainly is very significant for our council as it documents how active we have been and recognizes that we are working to follow the vision of Venerable Fr. Michael McGivney. Thank you Brother Knights for all of your time and efforts contributing to our success! Congratulations! We also send best wishes and offer special prayers to Fr. Mark Reilly as he prepares for a new assignment in Massena starting in July! Thank you Fr. Mark for your service to the Catholic Churches of the Mountains and Lakes! Fraternally, Bill McIntyre, Grand Knight Vivat Jesus!

COUNCIL NEWS ACTIVITIES / ANNOUNCEMENTS / COMMITTEES Council 599 was honored at the Spring Gala along with the Catholic Daughters in recognition of on-going support of St. Bernard s School. The school cafeteria has been dedicated to the Catholic Daughters and the school playground has been dedicated to the Knights of Columbus Council 599. Plaques were presented by Principal Ray Dora to Catholic Daughters Regent Carey Sayles and to Council 599 Grand Knight Bill McIntyre. FUND RAISING: Upcoming fund raising efforts include: Sell Community Calendars with the help of the St. Bernard s School children and perhaps the Cub Scouts. Sell hot dogs/hamburgers and drinks at Spencer Boat Works Runabout Rendezvous Boat Show on July 5 th. Sell hot dogs/hamburgers and drinks in August during the annual Rugby Tournament. IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FUND RAISING ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! THE FUND RAISING COMMITTEE MEETS AT 6:00 PM PRIOR TO MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETINGS. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! MEMBERSHIP/DEGREE SCHEDULE: Our council Field Agent Gib Patenaude has suggested an informational presentation on the Knights of Columbus and the many available products to all parishioners. This would be a great membership drive format and an opportunity to generate more interest in the Knights of Columbus. This idea is in a preliminary stage. More information to follow! Congratulations to our newest members of the Third Degree, Brothers Jack Knox, Mark Keating and Mike Saulpaugh! Exemplification of the Third Degree was conferred on Sunday, May 18 th at the AuSable Forks council. (L to R) Jack Knox, Mike Saulpaugh, GK Bill McIntyre, Mark Keating and FS Phil Capone

Council 599 conducted the following business at the May 2014 meeting: Approved the sponsoring of a Saranac Lake Youth Baseball Association little league team this year. Approved a donation to the After-Prom Celebration Committee. Further investigation of the cost to purchase polo or golf style shirts with the KofC emblem for members to wear during fund raising events. If you are interested in a K of C shirt, please send an email or call either the grand knight (wrm64@verizon.net, 637-3724) or Brother Mike Mouranie (mmouranie@yahoo.com, 354-8336) with your size and number of shirts. This will help with determining the council s costs to purchase and what, if any, cost for members! Thank you! REMINDER! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Fr. Alan Lamica has requested the assistance of the Knights with the sorting and distribution of several donated items he has accumulated. Fr. Al can be reached through the St. Bernard s office. Please consider offering an hour or so of your time! C&B Tickets will be coming soon! Please help support the council and this worthy program! Nomination Committee Chairman Phil Capone presented the below slate of officers for the 2014/2015 Columbian year. PROPOSED COUNCIL 599 OFFICERS - COLUMBIAN YEAR 2014 / 2015 Chaplain Fr. Mark Reilly Grand Knight James Ammon Deputy Grand Knight Stuart Darrah Chancellor Richard Sayles Recorder Dan McLean *Financial Secretary Phillip Capone Treasurer Claude Premo, PGK Advocate Paul Herrmann Warden John Fehlner Inside Guard Donald Jones Outside Guard Michael Mouranie Trustee 1Yr. John Miner, PGK Trustee 2 Yr. Anthony Samperi Trustee 3 Yr. William McIntyre Elections will take place at the June meeting. Nominations from the floor will be accepted. *Appointed with recommendation by the Supreme Knight. Please keep in your prayers our brother knights and their family members that are ill, especially Greg Peck, Mary McCarthy (wife of Ed McCarthy) and PGK/FDD Reg Perras. Please also remember in prayer our parish family members that are ill and our less fortunate friends and neighbors. We also keep in prayer Fr. Mark Reilly as he begins his new assignment in Massena in July. Please also refer to the PRAYER REQUESTS and KNIGHTS IN MEMORIAM areas on the council website!

PATRIOTIC DEGREE NEWS One Nation Under God Worthy Master of the Fifth District John Miner has announced there will not be an Exemplification of the Fourth Degree as previously announced. Hopefully one will be scheduled in the fall and would be most likely held on the western-side of the diocese. Any Third Degree member that is interested in the Patriotic Degree should contact the Worthy Master or Worthy Faithful Navigator Claude Premo for more information! Attention Sir Knights! Assembly 700 will be meeting following the June council meeting for the vote of officer positions for the coming fraternal year! MORE REMINDERS! We have the DVD version of the First Degree Exemplification. We need to be prepared and ready to conduct a degree to avoid any lengthy delay in bringing in new members! Anyone interested in forming the degree team is asked to contact the grand knight. To those that have not done so, please promptly send in your dues to FS Phil Capone and avoid having to receive ANOTHER Notice! Thank you! A Message from Knights of Columbus Field Agent Gib Patenaude Update your beneficiaries Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things. Take the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it could very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you ve had children who are not named on the policies. Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured. As I intend to send out annual notices and invitations for review, I recognize that many needs may currently exist. Consequently, I encourage any and all members to contact me if you have a question or concern or if it has been more than a year so that I may get you on my schedule. I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family s needs. Please contact me at: (518) 637-2832 (cell), (518) 310-1660 (main office) or gilbert.patenaude@kofc.org You can also find the link to my webpage from your council website!
