CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH 1 THIRD SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY January 27, 2019 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER (prepared by Jim Gann) Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 ESV When we read or hear God s Word being read it is not enough just to read or listen. We must take into consideration that God speaks directly to us through His Word. We are supposed to take to heart and meditate on what God is saying to us. His Word, as the Psalmist tells us, is perfect, sure, right, pure, true, and righteous. Furthermore, we are told to value His Word more than fine gold. Through His Word we learn about our sinful nature, but more importantly, we learn of His greatness and His forgiveness and grace. Let us praise and thank Him in our corporate and private worship. Through the Holy Spirit, our words will be acceptable to God, though they stumble or fail. PRELUDE ANNOUNCEMENTS (p. 15-17) CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please stand and face the Cross)

OPENING HYMN #829 Christ the Eternal Lord 2 + DIVINE SERVICE SETTING FIVE + INVOCATION, CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION Pastor: In the name of the Father and the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Pastor: Our help is in the name of the Lord. People: who made heaven and earth. Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, People: and You forgave the iniquity of my sin, (A moment of silence for reflection on God s Word and for selfexamination) Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. People: Dear loving and gracious God, we have sinned against you by our own fault, by our own grievous fault. We have failed to honor you with our lips and our hearts have been far from you. Please forgive us and draw us near so that we may live lives that praise Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. (Please remain standing)

PSALMODY (Psalm 19) Pastor: The heavens declare the glory of God, People: and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Pastor: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; People: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Pastor: The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; People: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. Pastor: The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; People: the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. Pastor: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; People: sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Pastor: Moreover, by them is Your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. People: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. HYMN OF PRAISE My Soul Rejoices LSB 933 st. 1 3

APOSTLE'S CREED All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen. 6 (Please be seated) We invite the children forward as we sing : LSB #740, vs. 1 & 2 I am Jesus little lamb, Ever glad a heart I am; For my Shepherd gently guides me, Knows my need and well provides me, Loves me ev ry day the same, Even calls me by my name. Day by day, at home, away, Jesus is my staff and stay. When I hunger, Jesus feeds me, Into pleasant pastures leads me; When I thirst, He bids me go Where the quiet waters flow. For the work of our triune God among us and among all people in the Holy Christian Church, that Jesus would be the One upon whom all eyes are fixed and in whom we see all the Scriptures find their fulfillment, let us pray to the Lord. People: Lord Jesus, open our hearts to receive You. People: Lord Jesus, open our hearts to receive You. Pastor: For the world in which we live and for all who work to care for the land and the people who dwell in it, that our gracious God would stand with those who serve in our government, military,

Pastor: For each member of the Body of Christ, the Church, that all of God s children would identify and put to use their God-given talents and that no members of the Body would see themselves as insignificant or unneeded but rather find their place of joyful service to Jesus and to one another, let us pray to the Lord. People: Lord Jesus, open our hearts to receive You. Pastor: For those who are shut-in and homebound, hospitalized and undergoing treatment, awaiting surgery and recovering from procedures, [including...], that our merciful Lord would fill them with the healing and peace that comes from His mighty presence in their lives, let us pray to the Lord. PROPER PREFACE Pastor: It is truly good, right, and salutary, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, Holy Father, almighty everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who on this day overcame death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your glorious Name, evermore praising You and singing SANCTUS LSB 507 vs. 4 9 THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.
