Your annual dues for membership help to provide awards and scholarships for our deserving patriotic young people. Gary Timmons and I attended the PASSAR meeting at Valley Forge a few weeks ago. At the Saturday night banquet, I was amazed at the young people representing different state chapters attending for recognition. One young woman gave an inspiring patriotic speech as part of the SAR oration or speech contest. She won a scholarship at our state level and will go on to the SAR national level. Another young man was recognized as an outstanding Eagle Scout and received a scholarship. The JROTC, a cooperative US military high school program focusing on character and citizenship, was represented by a young man who received an award. Above: 2018 Claysville Memorial Day Parade For the younger folks, a number of patriotic posters were displayed of the winners of the SAR Poster Contest. In addition, we heard from a state officer of

the CAR, Children of the American Revolution. He brought greetings from Everett Meer, a member of our chapter, who is the current PA State President of the CAR. The focus of their participation and fundraising for this year is on our military veterans. All of these young people should be commended on their patriotic desire to make a positive difference in our world today. I am asking each and every one of you reading this newsletter to appreciate how your membership in the SAR helps to promote our ideals of patriotism and service to our young people today. I would also ask that you go a step further and come out for our chapter meetings. If we do not have participating SAR members we cannot achieve our goals for our young people.
