The Messenger From the Pastor May 2016 Hello Church Family, Recently, I have asked each of the Sunday School classes to prayerwalk a region of Hawkinsville and Pulaski County. We have divided the city and county into eight different regions. Most of our adult and youth Sunday School classes have chosen a region. If your class has not, you need to do that immediately (maps are located in the main hall between the sanctuary and fellowship hall and I have individual maps available for each Sunday School class). I know for some of you prayerwalking is a new experience so here are some tips from the North American Mission Board to help you get started! Pray for Direction Prayer originates with God, so talk with him about how to get started, Call to me and I will answer you... (Jer. 33:3), and where he would have you walk and pray.... Your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it (Is. 30:21). Think of prayerwalking as a way to get to know God better by taking a walk with him. Get Cleaned Up Before you can pray for others, you need to be in right relationship with God. Allow the Holy Spirit time to examine your heart, confess any known sin, and accept God s forgiveness. Then you will be a clean vessel ready for God s use in prayer. Search me, O God, and know my heart... (Ps. 139:23-24). If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9). Get Dressed The object of a prayerwalk is not to draw undue attention to yourself, so it s best to leave the monk s robe and incense-box-on-a-rope at home. In addition to putting on the whole armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:10-18, wear clothing appropriate for the season and location (culture) along with comfortable walking shoes. Start Where You Are Don t worry about whether you do everything just right, or what other people may think of you,... Do not fear the reproach of men... (Isa. 51:7). Lean on the Holy Spirit. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness... (Ro. 8:26-27). Take a brief walk around your neighborhood asking God to give you eyes to see your neighbors as he sees them. Pray silently for them as God gives you insight about them from bikes, boats or other items you see. Use Scripture To keep your prayers biblical, spend time reading the Bible. Memorize God s word; or carry a few key verses on index cards to refer to as you pray.... So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Is. 55:11). Thank God that he loves your lost neighbors and pray that they would believe in Jesus. (John 3:16) Ask him to bring them out of darkness. (col. 1:13-14) Pray for them to be released from whatever hinders their faith. (2Timothy 2:25-26) Allow God to teach you through Scripture to pray in the character of Jesus, and remember [God} is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine... (Eph. 3:20), so pray believing he will answer. (Prayer 101, What Every Intercessor Needs to Know by Elaine Helms, pages 144-146) It is time for us as a church to lace up our shoes or start up our cars and pray for our community! Pray for our boldness and the community s openness to hear the Gospel. Then, we will see the Holy Spirit work! Pastor Jeff Waters Pastor Rev. Jeff Waters

Page 2 T he Messe n ge r M a y 2016 A Note from the Minister of Music Rev. Eric Woods, Associate Pastor What a wonderful night of worship we had on April 24 th, during the night service. The combined choirs of Westview and Broad Street Baptist Church, along with our instrumentalists, did a fantastic job in proclaiming the gospel in song during our choir concert. It was great to see our two churches worshipping the Lord together and then spending time together in a time of fellowship. Thank you choir and instrumentalists for all of your hard work and dedication. Thank you also to everyone who helped with the time of fellowship following the concert. What a privilege we have to gather together each week to use the gifts that God gives us to give them back to Him in worship. Glorifying the Lord should be the focus of everything that we do when we gather together each week. Also, remember that worship is something that we should do every day, not just on Sundays and Wednesdays. As followers of Jesus Christ, everything that we do in our daily walk should be done to glorify His name. He is worthy! Blessings, Eric Woods Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God. Kelly s Korner Rev. Kelly Hitchcock Associate Pastor Of Youth & Children As we come to the end of another school year, let me just say CONGRATULATIONS to all of our students and teachers for making it through another year! Know that you are being prayed for as the endof-year tests are happening, Finish strong! As school finishes, we will also be wrapping up Awana for this school year. We ve got three weeks left, and each week is something special. May 4th is Start Wars Night, May 11th is Parent/ Grandparent Night, and May 18t )the last week) is Party Night. One big change in our children s ministry that we are making is to our Children s Church. Beginning on May 8th, we will be changing the format to reflect our adult worship services, yet geared towards kids! The when and where will stay the same we will just be changing the how. I will be leading and teaching every week. We will also be opening it up to Pre-K - 3rd Grade now! It will feature kid-style worship + a relevant teaching that reflects what bro Jeff is preaching on that morning. Please be in prayer for this change! Our youth ministry has a busy month as well. One thing I want mention is this: we will be hosting a Dinner Theater Fundraiser on Wednesday, May 25th @ 6:30 pm. Our teens have been hard at work preparing a drama entitled Summer in Cricket County. We ll serve a nice meal and entertain you with this fantastic re-visit to Cricket County. Tickets will go on sale soon. All money will help send students on our summer mission trip! Thank you for your diligence in praying for our Youth and Children s Ministries! Serving Him, Kelly Hitchcock
