The Monthly Newsletter of Mountain View Baptist Church Tucson, AZ March 2013 Volume 13 Issue 3 ENCOURAGING WORDS BY PASTOR BRET D. BURN ETT Encouraging Words Snow in Tucson! Wow, what a beautiful sight it was. The picture shows our playground covered in snow. It reminds me of Isaiah 1:18, Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow. Now we desert rats can better understand that verse because we have seen snow in the desert. That verse also reminds me of Easter because it is the death and resurrection of Jesus that allows our sins to be white as snow. His blood shed on the cross and his victorious power over death gives us new life in him. Easter is the greatest celebration for Christians. The day our Savior and Lord, Jesus, rose from the grave. It is a day of victory for us and we should celebrate vibrantly. Come worship with us on Sunday, March 31 st as we praise our risen Savior. Invite someone to join you for breakfast and worship. The schedule is below. Making disciples for Jesus, Pastor Bret Maundy Thursday Lord s Supper Service March 28 at 6:00 p.m.

Baby Bottle Campaign Results Thank you to everyone who donated money to the Baby Bottle Campaign for the New Life Pregnancy Center during the month of January. A total of 76 bottles were turned in raising about $840. This money will help provide hope and care to those facing a pregnancy, planned or unplanned, through this Christ-centered ministry of Arizona Baptist Children's Services. Is God calling you to go on the next Kenya Mission Trip? Begin praying now about going on the next Kenya mission trip scheduled for May, 2014. You do not need any previous mission trip experience. The first introductory meeting will be held this May. Watch the church bulletin for details. It s Almost Here! In less than two months, April 12-14, we will have our men s retreat on Mount Lemmon and I am excited about it! The theme is, Refocus: Putting Jesus Back Up Front. Jesus is the Gospel, yet so much in our lives can obscure the transforming power of Christ, and His grace and forgiveness, that we might wonder if we understand just what the gospel is in the first place. If we confuse the gospel with response to the gospel, we will drift from what keeps the gospel on the ground, what makes it clear and personal, and the next thing you know, we will be doing a bunch of different things that actually obscure the gospel, not reveal it. (Matt Chandler, The Explicit Gospel) Our guest speaker will be Chad Haynes, pastor of Second Mile Church here in Tucson. He will be leading us through a study based on the book I quoted above, The Explicit Gospel. Chad is a great communicator and is driven to teach the truth of scripture with practical, real life, authentic application. Along with our study, it will be a great time of fellowship and a chance to enjoy some outdoor activities as well. Please sign-up with me or on the sheet in the foyer. I pray that we all have a fresh encounter with the living God and anything that is eclipsing our understanding of the Gospel will be pushed aside so that it is clearly revealed in our personal walk, in our families, in our workplace, in our church life and in our communities.
