Dear Parishioners, I remember seeing a James Bond film in which the Voodoo priest could summon the Living Dead called Zombies people hovering between life in the grave and life above ground level, but ultimately trapped as human beings living a grave-dominated existence. There are billions of the Living Dead around the world. People, apparently like you and me, but in fact living with the belief that the grave will mark the extinction of their life. But our ears are attuned to pick up words which sound the possibility of a different destiny, a different reality. We have heard a voice which speaks the truth, a voice which speaks of a more beautiful reality. That voice says that you and I, individually, personally, are star dust with a marvelous destiny: a destiny that will see our ensouled bodies transformed, transfigured, translucent with Divine Light and energy. The voice is that of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We hear that voice from within the Church, which has transmitted the tradition of The Voice for twenty centuries. Heeding that Voice, I move from the company of the Living Dead to the companionship of the Conqueror of Death. I am no longer a Dead Man Walking but a man alive with the reality of eternal life already within me. That is why when I hear the challenge: Do you also wish to go away? I enter into that tradition and answer with St Peter, I answer in the company of billions of others over twenty centuries: Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We could pause for a moment and pray that, living in the tradition of the Church, I may hear the Word in the Gospel and take that Word within myself in Holy Communion so that I might be no longer a Dead Man Walking, but a human being alive with the reality of eternal life already within me. Fr Michael Tate God Bless Us All, Father Tim

Baptism The sacrament of life with God and membership in the Church, through the parents commitment to raise their child in their gift of faith. Participation in a Baptismal Preparation Class for parents is required. The class will be held on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. Please call the parish office to register. Celebration of Baptism takes place at 11:45 am on Sundays. Penance The sacrament of peace, which renews our life with God and neighbor. Confessions are heard from 4:00 to 4:30 pm each Saturday, or anytime by personal appointment. New Parishioners You are most welcome at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. Let us know if you wish to join any of our ministries. You are invited to join us at the various activities throughout the year such as Donut Sunday, Annual Dinner, Lenten & Advent services. Please register as soon as possible. Registration forms may be found in the vestibule of the Church or at the parish office & website. Health Care Ministry Please notify the parish office when a member of the parish is in the hospital or if someone is unable to attend Mass and wishes to receive Holy Communion or the Anointing of the Sick. The Sacrament of the Sick (Extreme Unction) should be received at the beginning of a serious illness. A Faith Filled Reflection In today's Gospel, we learn of disciples that turned away from the Lord. Their faith weakened. The journey became too long. The ideals became too difficult. There was no certainty, no definite...too much question, too many unknowns. "God wants me to continually step out of my comfort zone and trust him with the unknowns. I have to leave room for God to guide me. If God were to come show me step-by-step his exact will for my life, it wouldn t require faith for me to follow him. Moreover, if I know exactly where I m going beforehand, the idea probably isn t from God. It probably came out of my own head and ideals. God likes me to follow him in faith and trust not in knowing. This frees me from getting stuck in my own ideas, which often can take me away from God s will, because let s face it, my own ideas can be very flawed as well as limited. God sees everything past, present and future. He is not limited." -Crosswalk.com Announcements / Upcoming Events: Parish Office Hours: Monday thru Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (9AM to Noon during summer Memorial Day to Labor Day). Through the sharing of experiences with other women in a small group discussion setting, we will address themes that will resonate with women. With prayer as our cornerstone, you ll find this time convenient and rewarding. What will we STUDY? The Fall Sessions - The five sessions that open the program - love, kindness, generosity, goodness and justice - focus on topics that are inherently meaningful to women. As mothers, daughters, wives and friends, these themes will resonate with all women enhancing both the comfort level of each participant and the cohesiveness and dynamics of each group. The Advent Sessions These five sessions address themes - acceptance, patience, joy and humility - that are in focus during the Advent Season. With a Scriptural focus on The Blessed Virgin Mary, many of these sessions will give women meaningful yet practical advice on how to open their hearts and minds to the will of God in their lives. The material discussed in these sessions complements the themes of the Scripture proclaimed in this holy season and in unison with it, celebrates the Joy we experience in welcoming Christ into our hearts every day. **Child Care Provided Please pray for our sick; especially those on our prayer network and: Julie Bernhardt, Chuck Boswell & Family, Dennis Dunn, Douglas Ray Greenwell, Mary T. Lerch, Fr. Mark Logue, Mike McNelly and Joan Shepherd. (Requests are listed with our Petitions every Sunday for 3 weeks and kept in the bulletin for 6 weeks).

Our Lady of Perpetual Help continues to invite all parishioners who have lost a love one to attend their Shared Hope meetings. They are held on the second Tuesday of the month at OLPH. The Turning Point: Eight Encounters with Jesus that will Change Your Life Pope Francis reminds us that personally encountering Christ is the key to our spiritual life. That s our goal! John s Gospel introduces readers to Jesus. And it is full of people, changed by their experiences with Christ, who have a lot to teach us. During this bible study we will study the Gospel of John by focusing on eight people (or groups of people) who meet Jesus. Want more information? Join Sr. Kass for an introduction/orientation to this study: Monday, August 27, 7 pm (OLOS parish hall) Tuesday, August 28, 10 am (OLOS parish hall) Thursday, August 30, 7 pm (OLPH parish hall) Note: All remaining sessions will be held at OLPH Hall.
