Merry Christmas we continue to celebrate the great Feast of Christmas and the coming of God s only Son. We celebrate through the next few weeks The Feast of the Holy Family, Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord. Each of these feasts open up to us the deep mystery of the Son of God embracing our human condition the mystery of the incarnation. This truth of God assuming our human condition helps us to see how God then confers on each of us infinite dignity. It is His divine love that He showers upon all humanity that God draws every human person up into the very heart of God. A deep truth that Pope Francis reminds us of in his exhortation The Joy of the Gospel. That truth opens us to the mystery of the dignity of every person! We especially recognize the value of the poor and those marginalized by society. The culture we live in tends to marginalize those who do not find the economic profile we tend to put on people. If you are wealthy and successful then you fit in with the crowd if not, then you are excluded. However, Jesus changed that set up He embraces the poor the marginalized. Now we see the plan of God to accept and welcome all to the table of God s children. We are part of the family because of Jesus! We are welcomed and accepted and loved with the Father s love. Now we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family! We reflect on the value of human life and the gift of family. God chose to enter our world within family life. We are all born into family. The challenges that face us are not of our own choice. There may be difficulties health issues and many other things. But, it is through these people that we are welcomed into this world. We pray for each family who are called to share life with us and nurture us with their love. Those who are our parents may have suffered difficulties and hurts but they try their best to love us and care for us. We celebrate how God chose to From the Desk Of Fr. John enter into our world through a human family. He came with all the limitations of ordinary families. He faced extinction from His first early days with no real home with the threat of King Herod and basically homelessness in a foreign country (Egypt). We can look around and find so many families who suffer these same issues because of war because of our own country s political policies or the simple economy of a region or neighborhood. We realize that many of these ills can be solved and addressed. So we can turn to the Lord to inspire us to address the bigger social needs of our society and address the needs of our own families. We move to the next celebration of our Christmas-Epiphany Season with the Feast of the Epiphany. We usually associate this feast with the 12 th day of Christmas remember the song on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me. We also recall the visit of the Three Magi or Kings bringing their gifts to the Lord. It is the moment of revelation of God s gift to the Gentiles really to the whole world! Jesus was not just the Savior of the chosen people but also the Savior of the whole world all of God s children. The Star alerted the Magi to God doing something special. They committed themselves to following the Star, through the revelation of Sacred Scripture came to Bethlehem and found the child with his mother. We must reflect on the invitation that God gives us to come to the revelation that He gives us. Are we ready to follow the journey to the gift that God is offering us? Our faith journey can lead us to salvation we just do not want to be so distracted that something else pulls us aside. The focus is on Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord!

We would like to continue sharing information on Divine Mercy Senior Living Community through our Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How series. This week, we will focus on Where is Divine Mercy Senior Living Community? 1) Divine Mercy Senior Living Community is the first Catholic senior living community of this kind in the diocese and it s right in our backyard! 2) Located in Glen Carbon, IL, this community will be easily accessible from the interstate and will have nearby restaurants and retail, making it convenient for residents to enjoy the neighborhood outside of Divine Mercy Senior Living Community. 3) Divine Mercy Senior Living Community will be located in the center of Madison County, allowing parishioners from North, East, South, and West to travel to the community in 25 minutes or less. If you would like to visit with Fr. John and the campaign committee to discuss your pledge to this effort, please call the Parish Office at 618-345-4343. Thank you in advance for your support of this important effort in our community!
