This past year has shown how much God works in this Emmaus community. We implemented the deadlines for the team numbers and also for the pilgrims. A lot of people were skeptical and concerned for no reason. The community members stepped up and answered the call to team and sponsor. All deadlines were met and I believe that they will be in the coming year, also. I would like to give a special thanks for those board members that rotated off this year and to those that have volunteered to come on for the next 3 years. They are Andrea Lambie, your past Community Lay Director; Jim Lambie, past Community music director and T-shirt/Logo sales; Wayne Johnson, the Weekend/Post-weekend chairperson; Vicky Carmody, secretary. Travis DeLoach has also rotated off of the Community Spiritual Directory side and Wayne Johnson has come on to replace him. Sandi Hicks will be taking over the Pre-Weekend Chairperson duties for me; Dan Hicks will be doing the T-shirt/Logo sales; Gary Baublitz will be doing the Weekend/Post-weekend duties; and Michele Baublitz will be our new Secretary. Susan Gibb has agreed to be the Community Music Director for 2019 and Laura Atkins will be heading up the Weekend kitchen help coordination duties. Please remember to thank these folks for stepping up when you see them. The upcoming year will have its own set of challenges for us. The fall walks will be our first move to get closer to the national model by removing the servants from the team roster. That will mean that our teams will only consist of 26 members. The details of how we will be coordinating the Agape, shed, and dining room servants is still being worked out. We will keep you posted. Just remember how blessed we are to be able to serve God in this capacity as Emmaus Community members. I look forward to seeing all of you at the coming gatherings and special events during the walks. Thanks you for putting faith in me to serve as your Community Lay Director for 2019. I look forward to what God has in store for all of us in this upcoming year. DeColores! Steven Atkins Community Lay Director
Page 2 A Message From Our Spiritual Director You Have Not Passed This Way Before Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it. Joshua 3:4 Each new year places us on a new path. Just think about it, the trails we blazed last year others will follow. Whatever we did or said left a clearly marked path of deeds and misdeeds that will be recited, rehearsed and studied by others curious about the path we walked. Such trails cannot be hidden. Where we have walked, the lives we have touched and the way we touched them cannot be relived, retouched or repeated. Last year s path, with its strange twists of successes and failures, glories, and embarrassments has been permanently recorded in the annals of history. A new year and a new path; today we stand on new ground. There is no trail for us to follow because no one has passed this way before. At the beginning of each new year we become trailblazers, going into new frontiers where no man has been. We don t know what lies beyond the next horizon. If asked to go back, we know that trail well, because we have walked that path before. However, faced with the prospect of the future many are uneasy. News reports of job layoffs, furloughs, job shut downs and closings, all kind of unexpected difficulties, give reason for apprehension. The prospect of clearing a path and making a trail through hostile territory is often unsettling. Breaking new ground on this frontier will be challenging but it will not be impossible. Our hope is that the new trail we blaze this year will be a trail filled with victory, joy and happiness. We have been given the right to expect the victory by our Lord who has given us the victory. We expect joy because we know that all things will work to the good of them that love the Lord according to his purpose. Regardless to what we encounter along the way we will count it all joy. As believers we have a right to expect our God to lead us, guide us, and protect us this year. Because we serve a God who has helped us blaze unknown trails in year s past and He is the same today as He was yesterday, and as long as God is still on the throne, we should not worry about the future or what it will bring because He is still in control. Deolores! Pastor Dave

Page 5 Prayer Chain Brothers And Sisters In Christ, I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas season and I wish you all a happy new year! As we look forward into 2019, I am reminded that each new year represents a fresh start. A time that can be full of excitement, new opportunities, new possibilities, and yes, even new challenges or obstacles to face. So, it is important to remember that while the year on the calendar may be different, we serve a God that is the same. He was there for you in 2018 and He will continue to be in 2019. HE IS FAITHFUL. Just as His presence is constant, so is His desire to communicate and have a relationship with us. Of course, prayer is a key part of that relationship. We have the privilege as believers of being able to call on God in any circumstance, and trust that He will be there to hear and respond to the cry of our hearts. With those thoughts in mind about prayer, I d like to invite you to joy the Emmaus Prayer Team. If you would like to receive updates or have a prayer request, the address to remember is Emmaus- PrayerTeam@gmail.com. Page 6 Hopefully you have been praying about who to sponsor this year. Perhaps a spouse of a new community member, someone you asked years ago and it wasn t the right season for them, or maybe someone who has been on your heart recently. Whomever that person might be that God puts in your heart to sponsor, don t wait to ask them! Talk to others in the community also to see if they need help with sponsorship, whether it is financially or with the logistics of getting the pilgrim to the weekend!
