Schedule of Ushers for Sunday, January 27 th : English Divine Liturgy: Group #5 Ms. Melanie Nakonachny, Mrs. Emily Wobser. This year we received many favorable comments from our parishioners who listened to the Christmas Liturgy over the radio and internet. They truly appreciated this annual outreach to our ill and elderly faithful. One e-mail received came from Winnipeg, Canada. The Nativity Liturgy was just so beautiful. The two hours just flew by. THANK YOU! GOD BLESS YOU! ~To our choir director Markian Komichak and all choir members who sang in last Sunday s caroling in the Ukrainian Village Christmas Concert at St. Josephat Cathedral. Truly our choir uplifted the Christmas atmosphere with its performance as evident by the response from the audience. ~To all children who took part in the annual carol sing along between Liturgies. It was a joy for all to hear the young voices glorify our Lord s Nativity in song and readings. We sincerely thank Pani Matka Anna, Natalia Mahlay and Oksana Logvynyuk for preparing the children for the program and to all the parents who drove them to rehearsals. January 22, 1973 is the sad anniversary in our country when the U.S. Supreme Court legalized the right of a women to have an abortion. Every year on that day hundreds of thousands of people, mostly young people, annually demonstrate in Washington D.C. for a change of heart toward the killing of innocent babies. Remember the ancient teachings of our Orthodox Church, going back to the early centuries, that life begins at conception. Pray for a change of heart. Please Join Zoe for Life on this sad anniversary, to pray for the unborn. Today, Sunday, January 20, 2019 6:00 p.m. Supplication Service at St. Matthew Orthodox Church Temporarily Located at 8235 Memphis Road Brooklyn, Ohio 44144 Guest Speaker: Fr. Andrew Harmon Light Refreshments Will Be Served The Ukrainian Orthodox League asks for your participation in their annual Souper Bowl Sunday collection on February 3, 2019. Please donate to St. Andrew s Society to assist in the maintenance of food distribution centers for the elderly in Ukraine. A collection will be held following the Liturgy on February 3 rd. The First Ukrainian Independence Day August 24, 1991 Ukraine proclaimed Independence from the former U.S.S.R. Ukrainians throughout the world celebrate that date. We in Parma hold our annual parade. Since that glorious August date, many have forgotten or possibly do not know that January 22, 1918 was the original proclamation in Kyiv and January 22, 1919-100 years this year-the joining of both western and eastern Ukraine was proclaimed. The freedom of our people did not last and the Soviet army crushed our young country. Ukrainians in the United States annually reminded our American citizens of the struggle of our people for independence. In hundreds of American cities, mayors would issue proclamations on this occasion and the Ukrainian flag would fly over city halls. We truly were a 3

force against communism and the Soviets were always made aware of our demonstrations and desiring independence. Recently I came across the schedule of events in New Jersey in 1977 around the January 22 nd celebration. Truly our communities were always organizing events. The clergy always participated in these commemorations and at the same time working around the blessing of parishioners homes. I hope you find this schedule of events, included in this morning s bulletin, of interest. At the same time we remember the departed men and women who showed their love for Ukraine by organizing the many events for many years Their prayers, dreams and labor for an Independent Ukraine became a reality on August 24, 1991. May their Memory be Eternal. Vichnaya Pamyat. ~Fr. John The All Saints Camp Boosters, which are sold annually to help raise funds for camp maintenance, are now on sale. They cost $25.00 each and make great Christmas gifts. Please see Mrs. Mary Ann Sklaryk for more information about this project and to purchase your boosters. Only a limited number of tickets are available. Don t wait too long and be disappointed. Please remember our sick and elderly parishioners in your prayers. Also, the clergy request that they be notified when parishioners are admitted to and/or discharged from the hospital and transferred to a nursing home and if a home visit is desired. If you would like a family member to be greeted in the bulletin on the occasion of a birthday or anniversary, please phone the rectory no later than the Monday before you wish it to appear. Our Orthodox Church believes that life begins at conception! Pray for a change of heart in our nation! Attend Church every Sunday as a Family and unite with Our Lord in Holy Communion. 4

When Thou, O Lord, was baptized in the Jordan, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest. For the voice of the Father bore witness to Thee and called Thee His beloved Son. And the Spirit, in the form of a Dove, confirmed the truthfulness of His Word. O Christ our God, who has revealed Thyself and has enlightened the world, Glory to Thee!
