OUR LADY OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY

Transcription:

Knight Lines October, 2015 Hoffman - Schaumburg Council 6964 The month of the Holy Rosary is October and this entire month is dedicated to the Rosary. The feast day of the Holy Rosary in particular is October 7th. The feast of the Rosary is held on October 7th in memory of the glorious and triumphant victory at the battle of Lepanto. That battle was the most convincing military victory that proved without a doubt the great power of the Rosary. The Rosary is the best method of honoring Mary. Honorary Life Memberships: were handed out to John Heavey & Steve O'Donoghue for all their years of service in our council by Grand Knight Joe Tuccori. Congratulations Men! Well Done! The "Tootsie Roll" ID Drive (Sept. 18th. - 20th.) is now over. The weather co-operated! It was our Largest Fundraiser of the Year! The Final Numbers are not in yet but we are expecting very decent results. The Very Generous efforts put out by our Council's Knights, their Wives and Friends of our Council helped to bring about these results. Many of our Knights worked double or triple shifts to help meet our goals. "Peter Stresino" alone, worked 5 shifts on Friday. Husband & Wife Teams of Cory & Joan Linnane, Joe & Debra Tuccori worked in tandem at Golf & Barrington Roads and at Walgreens. The "Elite Stars" sent us at least 12 volunteers. Pete Skinder's sister helped out. Dick Lambke & Kevin Thomas collected money & were runners all day long. Jim Manfre & his lovely wife Joyce, provided the volunteer counters with lunch & refreshments at their home affectionately called "Tootsie Roll Central". Al Goy, Rick Froelick, Larry Bretz, Bill Clark & Larry Arquilla assisted counting money. On Sept. 8th. at St. Matthew, there were at least 9 Knights that volunteered to help man the telephones looking for volunteers. Finally, walking the streets, at store fronts and in front of our Churches were all the dedicated Volunteers with their milk jugs handing out "Tootsie Rolls" for the "I.D. drive. What a monumental effort they performed! I photographed as many of these hard working volunteers as I could when I was not on the street collecting myself. It is at times like this that you are proud to be a "KNIGHT". The pictures that follow contain only some of wonderful people that helped us out. I could not possibly get everyone's picture, even though I wanted too. Retirement Balancing Act: By Pierre Zermatten Knights of Columbus Field Agent Think of retirement as a three-legged stool. In order to maintain balance, you need all three legs or there is a real possibility of a crash! One leg consists of the benefits the government offers you. Debate rages about the viability of future benefits, and my best advice is to stay tuned to the discussion and make sure you are aware of what is planned for those benefits. Any change in future promises should be accounted for when we get to the third leg. The second leg is your company s pension plan, either defined benefit (such as a traditional pension: you work so many years and the company provides you with so much monthly benefit) or defined contribution (such as the popular 401K plans). Some of these plans, particularly traditional ones, are under stress, have been frozen or pared back. Learn how yours works; read the plan description; stay on top of the news coming from the company. On the 401K side, become a good investor. Teach yourself the fundamentals of good diversification and know how much you have and when you will need it. Finally, the third leg is the saving you do yourself, and this is the only aspect you can control completely. Everyone needs this third leg. It consists of the money you personally set aside on a disciplined basis to help in retirement. You don t directly control government benefits and you don t directly manage your company s pension plan, but you must manage your money and your life. Establish a retirement plan of your own. Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income that you cannot outlive at retirement. That s right guarantee you an income you cannot outlive. That really will provide you with peace of mind. As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about the one thing you can do to help yourself. It s reasonably priced, guaranteed and controlled by someone you trust: you! I m at 847-323-0914 or pierre.zermatten@kofc.org. Call me let s talk.
