January 20, 2019 First Presbyterian Church Second Sunday after Epiphany 11:00 am Writing in bold is for the congregation response. *Please stand as you are able. Gathering Around the Word Welcome Music for Meditation *Call to Worship One: You are welcome to this place. All: This is God s place and our place too. This is the place where we gather together to pray, to sing praise, to hear and see the truth of God s word. In this place we learn that all places may be holy places to us if we seek God in them. One: You are welcome to this time. All: This is God s time and our time too. This is the time when we come apart from the busyness, the duty, the self-indulgence of other hours. In this time we learn that all time may be holy time to us if we seek God in it. One: In this place, in this time, come and worship. *Hymn 339 Lift every Voice and Sing Lift Every Voice Call to Confession Confession and Pardon Eternal One, we push ourselves too hard. We seem to have an inner compulsion to drive ourselves to the breaking point. Even leisure time doesn t help us. We either fill it up with enough obligations to run us ragged or we fritter it away on electronic trivia. We are afraid of silence, of genuine rest. Are we afraid to look at ourselves honestly; are we frightened that you may speak to us in such moments? Hear and forgive and help us, our God.

Assurance of Forgiveness Leader: No condemnation now hangs over the head of those who are in Christ Jesus. Christ lifts us out of the old vicious circle of sin and death. We are forgiven. People: In Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! *Passing of the Peace Greet each other in the love & forgiveness of Christ; saying Peace be with you! and responding and also with you! *Response (GTG 288) "Spirit of the Living God Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
