THE ALL SAINTS MONTHLY Coming Up Georgia Tech Chamber Choir Georgia Tech s select, auditioned vocal ensemble, The Georgia Tech Chamber Choir, will sing at the October 3 morning services under the direction of Dr. Jerry Ulrich, the University s Director of Choral Activities. Sunday, October 3 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. in church Novel Theology Franny and Zooey, by J.D. Salinger This story, by the author made famous for Catcher in the Rye, is essentially a thinly disguised philosophical conservation between a gifted young sister and her brother about the centuries-practiced Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me). Their discourse is meant to point toward where we might happen upon Christ in our time. Timothy Frilingos facilitates our discussion. Popcorn Theology This month we will present the award-winning My Left Foot. This wonderful film tells the true story of Christy Brown, the writer and artist, who was born with cerebral palsy. And although the story of Christy and his family will inspire you, it never asks for pity. It is a truly honest portrait of a man, not a disability, who is fiercely determined to fulfill his dreams. In spite of the serious subject matter, this is a truly entertaining film told with great Irish black humor. There will most certainly be an interesting discussion following the movie. Friday, October 22 Showtime 7:00 p.m. in the Horseshoe Room $3 admission includes the movie, liquid refreshments and, of course, popcorn. For more information call Barbara Blender at 404/874-2344 or bblender@bellsouth.net. Arts Theology and a Parish Collects Parishioner Missi McMorries and her husband Jon Simmons open their home for a tour of their collection of art that is composed of contemporary painting, photography and sculpture, primarily, but not exclusively, by Georgia artists. Sunday, October 24 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the McMorries/Simmons home Wednesday, October 20 7:00 p.m. in the Skylight Room For further information contact The tour is limited to 40 participants. Jerry Byrd at jerald.byrd@comcast.net Sign up at the parish life table or contact or 404-873-8398, or visit Lauri Begley at 404-267-4273 or www.allsaintsatlanta.org/parishlife lbegley@allsaintsatlanta.org All Saints Episcopal Church Coming Up for GALAS Don't miss Pride weekend! Pride weekend runs October 7-10; Pride Eucharist will be celebrated at All Saints, that Thursday. The Rt. Rev d Keith Whitmore, Assistant Bishop of Atlanta will preside with The Rev. William McCord Mac Thigpen III preaching. Pride Eucharist Thursday, October 7 7:30 p.m. in the church Anyone wishing to sing in the choir should be in the choir suite between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. Reception follows the service in Ellis Hall. Also coming up this month through November GALAS will be collecting coats and other much needed items for All Saints Threads ministry. Look for the GALAS Coat Drive table soon in the courtyard and bring us your new or gently used toddler coats, mittens, etc. Sundays, October 31 December 5 Between the morning services in the courtyard (or Ellis Hall in case of bad weather) GALAS Letter-Writing Workshop Get your writing instruments ready to speak the truth in love to our ecclesiastical and legislative authorities at GALAS letter-writing workshop. Gretchen Chateau will lead a dedicated time to learn about who our leaders are, how they may be contacted, and how to write a succinct, well-reasoned and persuasive letter to urge a further bending of that arc toward justice, i.e., full inclusion of the LGBT community. Sunday, November 21 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Skylight Room For more information on any GALAS events, call Gretchen Chateau at 321-945-4911.

Delcamp Organ Concert Robert G. Delcamp is the University Choirmaster and Organist at Sewanee, The University of the South. Dr. Delcamp earned his bachelor and Master of Music degrees in organ performance at the University of Cincinnati, and his DMus. Degree from Northwestern University. As a concert artist, Robert Delcamp has toured extensively Choirmaster s Corner October Hymn of the Month Hymn # 624: Jerusalem the golden Hymn Tune: Ewing This may well be described as The Tune With Many Names. It has been designated as Argyle, Bernard, Jenner, Jerusalem, St. Bede s, as well as Ewing. Bernard and Jerusalem stem from the tune s association with portions of Bernard of Cluny s long poem De Contemptu Mundi. St. Bede s was the name given by it s composer, Alexander Ewing; and one can surmise that Argyle came about because of Ewing s Scottish heritage. Alexander Ewing was a member through the United States, and his specialty is the nineteenth and early twentieth century organ repertoire, with a focus on the organ music of Marcel Dupré. ROBERT G. THE ALL SAINTS MONTHLY New Habitat House Build Coming Up, October 9-November 20 We are gearing-up to build another Habitat house! If you would like to help out with the project, we'd love to have you join. All skill levels are encouraged and welcomed. We will build for seven Saturdays beginning October 9 and ending November 20, just in time for the family to have Thanksgiving in their completed home. Come swing a hammer and build friendships as we work together with a family to make their dream of homeownership a reality! Habitat Cooks Needed! Another group of dedicated volunteers are needed to prepare a delicious lunch for those swinging their hammers. Volunteers prepare lunch for all those working onsite: the volunteer builders, the Habitat family and the Habitat staff. Lunch volunteers deliver the food by noon to the site and all enjoy a well-earned meal in the fall sunshine. If you would like to help build or provide lunch, please contact Habitat Co-Chairs Tom Holmes 404-237-0932 or Charles Wright 404-863-4906 for more information. We ask that you commit to a full day of work (8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.), and you must be at least 16 to build, due to insurance regulations. Make your pledge today online: www.allsaintsatlanta.org. (See the link on the homepage) For more information, contact 2011 Annual Canvass Chair Debbie Wilson at dwilson@swfllp.com or Ellen Hayes, Director of Stewardship and Development at 404/267-4275 or ehayes@allsaintsatlanta.org. Dear Friends in Christ Jesus, Many greetings from the Diocese of Tabora, Tanzania. I am pleased to let you know that the election of the 3rd Bishop of the Diocese of Western Tanganyika (DWT) after the retirement of Bishop Gerard Mpango went well. I am happy to officially inform you that I have been selected the 3rd Bishop of the DWT. Glory to God. I did not apply to return back home, but the clergy and the lay people from the Diocese of Western Tanganyika came to ask me to accept a call of God to DWT. This was not easy for me because I love Tabora. But after prayers and seeking the will of God, I have finally accepted this call. Please continue to hold in prayer Editha my wife who is still not feeling well in Dar-Es-Salaam. Please continue to pray so that God may provide all the necessary needs. Once again may I thank you very much indeed for your love, prayers and continous support to my ministry. I am ready to go and face different challenges in the DWT, but I trust God who helped me to serve Him in Tabora will continue to bless our ministry there. May God love you all. Sincerely in Christ, +Sadock Makaya Your prayers are requested on October 11, the day of The Right Reverend Sadock Makaya's installation as the third bishop of the Diocese of Western Tanganyika. THE ALL SAINTS MONTHLY PAGE 8 It s beginning to look a lot like Christmas Okay, so it isn t. It is still pretty warm outside and we have pumpkins on the porch. But it is not too early to let you know about the new Christmas schedule that we will be introducing this year. In the past few years, the resounding success of the children s choirs under the direction of Karol Kimmell have made the 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve worship service a rich and full experience. They have also made a full church, standing room only, in fact. In order to accommodate more worshipers on Christmas Eve and in order that we have enough opportunities for the children s choirs to be a part of Christmas worship, we are adding another service to our lineup. This year, our Christmas Eve worship schedule will be as follows: 1:00 p.m. Congregational Lessons and Carols 3:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist Rite II with the Junior Choir and handbells 5:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist Rite II with the Youth Choir and handbells 7:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist Rite II with Choir (7:00 p.m. choral prelude) 10:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist Rite II with Choir (10:00 p.m. Choral Prelude) Joining the children at 3:00 and 5:00 pm. are a harpist and flautist and there will be a youth string quartet at the 5:00 p.m. service. Like everything new and different, we expect that there will be some growing pains with this new schedule, but we also know that the joy of the Incarnation will infuse all of us with a little extra patience. WE look forward to seeing you and your family this Christmas. The deadline for the November issue is Thursday, October 7.
