SHOPPING CART REQUEST For the month of JANUARY Jarred Baby Food Dry Boxed Baby Food ON-GOING PANTRY STOCK Canned Tuna; Canned Soup; Canned Spam; Boxed Macaroni & Cheese THANK YOU! - A service of worship and celebration focused on the many expressions of outreach engaged in by and through the members of Ellington Congregational Church. January 27 th Come hear about the good work and good will poured into ECC s caring ministries. The Friendship Class meets at 1:00 pm in Room 201 the first Tuesday of each month September June, please consider joining us on Tuesday, February 5 th for a presentation by Dr. Jay. On March 5 th the Friendship Class will begin a 4-month Bible Study on the Book of Galatians. Paul wrote this letter to the churches of Galatia, churches he had founded on his missionary journeys through Asia Minor. These new believers had been converted from pagan religions and many from Jewish backgrounds. The problem of heresy, false teachings, began to grow in the Galatian churches. The Jews couldn't believe they didn't have to obey Jewish ceremonial laws in order to be saved. These new believers cast doubt on Paul's authority as an apostle, as a leader in the church. This letter is Paul's response. Read chapters one and two for the March 5 th meeting to hear Paul's defense of his authority as teacher and leader. Virginia Dzen will facilitate.

ALL ARE INVITED Ellington Congregational Church, UCC Saturday, February 2 nd (snow date: Sat., February 9, 2019) CALLING ALL MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF ELLINGTON CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH What is YOUR Church? Our Annual Summit will begin at 8:30 am with fellowship & refreshments and the meeting from 9:00-12:00. Cathy Leonard, Moderator

A New Adult Study: Making Sense of the Bible Dr. Jay will be leading an adult study class called Making Sense of the Bible. This class is going to consider an over view of the Bible and questions such as: Who wrote the Bible? What do we mean by scripture being inspired by God? Is the Bible without error? How do we deal with contradictions in the Bible? How does God speak through the Bible? What do we do about the violence of God in the Bible? Did Jesus really say that? How should we read and interpret the Bible? Based on a book by Adam Hamilton, Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the Power of Scripture for Today, and using a video each session, Dr. Jay will lead participants to evaluate what they believe about the Bible and why. His hope is that each of us will come to appreciate anew the spiritual teaching of the scriptures and find a deeper interest in studying, praying about and living its teachings. Each week the same session will be held on Monday evenings at 7pm and on Wednesday mornings at 10am for an hour. Purchase of the Hamilton book (on your own) is encouraged but not required. Sign up by calling, emailing or stopping in the church office or with Dr. Jay. Monday, January 28 th March 4 th in Room 201 Wednesday, January 30 th March 6 th in Room 201
