Joseph B. Cavallaro Council #4884 Knights of Columbus JULY 2017 S.K. Ed McGibbon Grand Knight Carl Bartolotti, P.G.K., Editor Newsletter@CavallaroCouncil.com Web-Master - Mike A. Nuccio, www.cavallarocouncil.com GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Brother Knights I hope you all will take a moment and the opportunity to read our Cavallaro Council bulletin. Our last general meeting was the election of officers for the coming New Year beginning in July1st. I would like to thank the nominating committee for recommending me to take on this task, along with others who were elected to give their support to the council. You will find that new list of officers in this bulletin. As newly elected Grand Knight, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our past Grand Knight, Robert Toigo, for the last two years giving me his time and patience teaching me all the council protocols. It is time to reflect on last year s many gifts of merits some of you all contributed to the council. I would also like to have seen more Brother Knights attend our meetings so you can be a part of the merit program. As I transition to my newly elected position I look forward to working with each and every one of you and hope we can continue this mission with many future council achievements. I look forward to seeing many of my Brother Knights and look forward to working with the Columbiettes. I would appreciate if anyone who has any specific inquiries please contact me. There will be no Knights meeting on July 4 th, but July 11 th will be the Knights officers meeting at 7pm followed by the Knights General Meeting at 8 pm. Please make every effort to attend so we can work on another successful upcoming year. Fraternally, SK Ed Mc Gibbon, Grand Knight

4 8 8 4 Council News MOTIONS / RESOLUTIONS MOTION by PGK Bob Vezzuso to donate the sum of $250.00 to the Detective Matthew Tarantino Family Fund. Det. Tarantino was killed in a traffic accident and left behind 2 young children and a wife carrying another child. Motion passed unanimously.. FS News: My Brother Knights Congratulations to our new Grand Knight Ed McGibbon and his newly elected staff. With our new fraternal year beginning, it's time to start thinking about growing our council and our order. Over the past two years, we've lost 15 members. Most were newly inducted and took no interest in our council or the good works that we do. When most men are asked why they never joined, they respond with "I was never asked!". Well, you need to ask, but when you do, make sure the person you are asking is worthy of joining our ranks and not just to do you a favor. We need young(er) men who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help with the many programs and functions we run during the year. Most of these events are fundraisers to put money in our treasury so we can afford

to make donations to worthy causes and to support worthy organizations. Our annual picnic and children's Christmas party is paid for out of our treasury. That money gets into the treasury because of the untiring efforts of a handful of members. Those members are getting older and tired. We need help to keep going to keep Cavallaro Council alive and well. Fraternally, Bob Vezzuso, PGK, FS 718-234-1747 FOOD PROGRAM:. Please brothers, every time you come to the council bring a non-perishable food item. The Food Pantry is always in need. There are many families in the neighborhood that need help and St. A s tries to answer the call. Bensonhurst Market (formerly Met Food) is next store to the council. A couple of dollars out of our pockets goes a long way in supporting the needy families in the neighborhood. A can of soup, box of cereal, pasta, sauce, peanut butter, jelly, a can of vegetables. Council members are welcome to attend; however there is a fee of $36.00 per adult. Members children are FREE and $19.00 per child over 3 years of age for non-members children. We are doing this on a trial basis; due to the fact that we are not getting enough help from the members when we use St. A s ball-field in Brooklyn. As there is little to do for this picnic, the Council is limiting the number of adults helping and chaperoning to 5. You MUST check with Carl Bartolotti if you are interested in helping that day.
