St. Paul Youth Ministry Grades 6-12 ST PAUL YOUTH MINISTRY CHECK IT OUT! This is an open invitation to all students in grades six through twelve to join us on Sunday evenings to discover what God is calling you to do as the young church. Saint Paul Youth Ministry is focused on forming our young people through the study and practice of their faith and to challenge them to embrace the life of the church through prayer, service to our community and social activities. Below is our schedule for the next few months. Grades 9-12 meet 4:30-6:00PM and Grades 6-8 meet 6:30-8:00PM except where noted differently. JANUARY 2019 January 13 January 17 & 18: Grades 9-12, March for Life January 20 January 27: All Grades 6:00-8:00PM FEBRUARY 2019 February 3 February 10 February 17 February 24 MARCH 2019 March 3 March 10 March 17 March 24 March 31 46TH ANNUAL MARCH FOR LIFE RALLY & PROTEST 2019 No matter how I size the pictures, I cannot seem to capture the essence of the magnitude of the crowd in Washington DC that gathers to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. They gather to protest the legalization of abortion, the use of public money to fund abortion and seek to end the practice of abortion. They also gather to protest euthanasia, mercy killing of the terminally ill. Life from conception to natural end is their mantra. Each year the size of the crowd is different, mostly due to the weather and travel conditions to get from points throughout the United States to Washington DC. But, no matter how you slice it, the crowd is huge. Usually there is not violence, but there are counter-protestors who obviously have a different opinion and voice it loudly. The crowd is made up of the very young, sometimes being pushed in strollers or carried on their parents backs or shoulders. There are grade school age children and teens who have taken the day off from school to join in the protest with adults from their family. There are people from the work force, home-makers, retirees, clergy and atheists. They are Catholics, Protestants, Jewish and other denominations. Women give testimony to the heart break of life after abortion; and men give testimony to the lost opportunity of fatherhood, sometimes not knowing this choice was being made for them. All of these people gather with one focus...to protect the right of each life to come into being; and to live that life until called home by the Creator. It is not to late to make a call and get on the bus, or take the day off and drive to Washington DC to join the Rally & March. The bus will leave our parking lot by 6:30AM on January 18th. To get a seat on the bus call Paul Whalen at 724-836-3096 to make your reservation. The cost is only $20.00 and a bagged lunch is provided. If you d rather travel yourself you can drive to Washington DC and walk into the Mall area...you cannot miss it. DCCW PRO-LIFE PRAYER EVENT JANUARY 18 The Greensburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) will sponsor a Pro-Life Day of Prayer Jan. 18 at Christ Our Shepherd Center. The day begins at 11 a.m. with a Rosary for Priests followed by Mass and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The event closes with Benediction at 4PM. Page 2

KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOR Today we offer our prayerful condolences to the Families of James (Bert) Bringe and Ernestine Salvador. Ernestine was 79 years old when she died on December 31, 2018. Immediate family gathered at the Bacha Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5th for a funeral liturgy, followed by Burial at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. Bert (James ) was 84 years old when he died on January 1in his home. He was a long-time member here. Bert was a veteran who served in the Marine Corps in the aftermath of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Teresa and 7 children; Eric, Pete, Kevin, Karen, Kathy Johanna & Melissa, and Bert s sister Patricia. There are 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Bert s choice was not to gather at the funeral home for viewing, but instead to come directly to church for Mass followed by burial at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery (January 5). Readings & Reflections TODAY S READINGS First Reading Isaiah speaks of the Servant whom the Lord upholds; he shall bring forth justice to the nations (Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7) or Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11. Psalm The Lord will bless his people with peace (Psalm 29) or Psalm 104. Second Reading Jesus was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit; he went out healing and doing good (Acts 10:34-38) or Titus 2:11-14; 3:4-7. Gospel A voice comes from heaven proclaiming Jesus as the beloved Son, with whom God is well pleased (Luke 3:15-16, 21-22). READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Heb 1:1-6; Ps 97:1, 2b, 6, 7c, 9; Mk 1:14-20 Tuesday: Heb 2:5-12; Ps 8:2ab, 5, 6-9; Mk 1:21-28 Wednesday: Heb 2:14-18; Ps 105:1-4, 6-9; Mk 1:29-39 Thursday: Heb 3:7-14; Ps 95:6-11; Mk 1:40-45 Friday: Heb 4:1-5, 11; Ps 78:3, 4bc, 6c-8; Mk 2:1-12 Saturday: Heb 4:12-16; Ps 19:8-10, 15; Mk 2:13-17 Sunday: Is 62:1-5; Ps 96:1-3, 7-10; 1 Cor 12:4-11; Jn 2:1-11 REFLECTION: CALLED TO SERVE For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as one mightier than I. But he did as Jesus asked, and the Holy Spirit descended and heaven s voice spoke to Jesus, You are my beloved Son. Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him. Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that message and to serve God s word. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
