St. Mark s Lutheran School Notes On Wednesday, March 30, Mrs. Sue Schwarz will lead us in chapel. Offering will be designated for the Orphan Grain Train. Orphan Grain Train is a Christian volunteer network that ships donated food, clothing, medical and other needed items to people in 64 different countries including the USA. Of every dollar spent, 97% goes for helping needy people. A very lean 3% goes for administration and fundraising. Students in Grades 5-8 each held an "in" class spelling bee to determine who will represent St. Mark's at the Bi-County Spelling Bee. The Bee will be held Thursday, March 31, at Gardner Elementary in Waterloo. The following students will be attending the spelling bee: 5th grade-evan Buch; 6th grade-trinity Glodo; 7th grade-samantha Schulte and 8th grade-bastian Kraus. Good Luck students! Thursday, March 31st, is the last day parents can pre-enroll their child/children for next school year by paying $200 registration fee per family NOW! If you fail to pre-enroll, you will not lock in 2015-2016 tuition rates and pay the increase this fall when it is time to register for the 2016-2017 school year. Forms were included with the last Panther News (red paper) or available in the school office. Members of St. Mark's track team have started work in preparation for their first meet which will be the Evansville practice meet at Sparta beginning at 4 pm on Monday, April 11 followed by the OVC track meet at Sparta on Wednesday, April 13 at 12:30 (scratch 12:00). Track members are: 8th Grade-Bastian Kraus, Jared Phillips, Logan Fulkerson, Luke Bartens, Kelsey Cowan and Morgan Coop; 7th Grade-Dalton Hornberger, Adrienne Vallett and Samantha Schulte; 6th Grade-Eli Coop and Kadence Bockhorn; and 5th Grade-Brenden Lindenberg, Carter Wasson, Evan Reitz and Grace Cronin. Coaching the Panthers Track team this year is Mr. Larry Luedders, Mrs. Ann Luedders, and Mrs. Susan Schwarz. We thank them for their dedication to this program and with the track team the best of luck! Super Raffle has been Extended! If you missed purchasing a Super Raffle Ticket then you are in luck! We have extended the drawing of the Grand Prize, and the other main prizes, to May 7th (at the St. Mark's Dinner Auction). We held a drawing on March 6th at the Chicken Dinner for an "Early Bird" drawing consisting of 5 prizes and the winners were: Madina Renner-$1,000, Jason Vallett-$500, Cindy Sickmeyer-$250, Tim Allard-$100, and Marilyn Kueker-$50. Those that win prizes at the Early Bird drawing will go back in for the drawing at the Dinner Auction. The intent is to give additional time to purchase more tickets in order to give away the full prize amounts. School families, you can also take advantage of this extra time to sell tickets, as the tuition discounts still apply! If there are any questions or issues please contact Casey Vallett at 618-318-1456. Thank you! Change for Change Response to this fundraiser has been good. Money given in the jars will go toward replacing the Contingency Fund. Watch the banner in the altar area to see how the fund is growing. We have collected $264.97 that was used to repay the Payroll Loan to the Gifts and Memorials Savings Account and $1,767.61 to rebuild the Contingency Fund for a total of $2,032.58. Christianity 101 A (refresher?) course in the basic teachings of the Christian faith is beginning on Sunday, April 3 @ 10:15 a.m. in the meeting room next to the church office. Please advise Pr. Bedard of your intent to participate or if you are interested but this time doesn't work (985) 791-4447 or bedard.kelly@gmail.com as one-to-one instruction is also an option.
