December 31, 2017 Dear Partnering Parishioners, Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph We are blessed to have loving families here in our parish. As we celebrate this Sunday within the Octave of Christmas dedicated to the Holy Family of Nazareth, we are reminded by this annual celebration that God s blessings come to our society by way of the family. Saint John Paul II once wrote that we owe to the family our very existence as an individual. Each of us is...particular, unique and unrepeatable as a person. We recognize the great truth that although families have roles and functions, the main value in families is in the relationships, which are irreplaceable. He continued: The future of the world and of the Church passes through the family (Apostolic Exhortation On the Family, 1994). It was Father Patrick Peyton, a Holy Cross Priest, who coined the phrase the family that prayers together stay together. This is sound advice as we enter into the New Year. During this New Year of 2018, ask God our Father to help you live as the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, united in respect and love. So that He can bring all of you to the joy and peace of the eternal home of heaven. Here is another piece of advice that has been around for many years. CHILDREN LEAN WHAT THEY LIVE If a child lives with criticism, he/she learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, he/she learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, he/she learns to be shy. If a child lives with shame, he/she learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, he/she learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, he/she learns to have confidence. If a child lives with praise, he/she learns to appreciate. If a child lives with fairness, he/she learns justice. If a child lives with security, he/she learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, he/she learns to like himself/herself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he/she learns to find love in the world. Prayer For the Feast of The Holy Family Dear Lord, bless our family. Be so kind as to give us the unity, peace, and mutual love that You found in Your own family in the little town of Nazareth. Saint Joseph, bless the head of our family. Obtain for him the strength, the wisdom, and the prudence he needs to support and direct those under his care. Mother Mary, bless the mother of our family. Help her to be pure and kind, gentle and self-sacrificing. For the more she resembles you, the better will our family be. Lord Jesus, bless the children of our family. Help them to be obedient and devoted to their parents. Make them more and more like You. Let them grow, as You did, in wisdom and age and grace before God and man. Holy Family of Nazareth, make our family and home more and more like Yours, until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with You. Amen. CatholicPhilly.com.
