Greetings Friends! These last few months we have traveled through the Gospel of John hearing the teachings of Jesus and the commissioning of the Disciples. On Pentecost we celebrated receiving the POWER of the Holy Spirit to enable us to carry on the work of the Church as commissioned by Christ. Now the real work begins working together June 2018 as the Body of Christ, the Church for all the world to see. 1 st Corinthians is one of the most studied books of the Bible because it is a book Paul wrote to Christians who had many of the same needs that Christians today have. In the New Student Study Bible, NRSV; the introduction to 1 st Corinthians is actually titled: The Last Place to Start a Church. No one expected much from crazy Corinth. The church was beginning to learning to live as a community, and struggled with finding how to live out faith in Christ in practical ways and within genuine relationships. Paul s words to the Corinthians were meant to encourage and to challenge. It was about treating one another better and building a healthy community. Paul wrote about how to handle life together. Our Summer Preaching Focus is Can t We All Just Get Along? Lessons from the Streets of Corinth. There are a lot of different people in the world and we live in a diverse nation made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds. That kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other; despite our differences we all want to get along. Sharing conversations and sharing activities is a great way to be together in community. Join us Wednesdays during the summer from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for FUN & FELLOWSHIP! ALL AGES! Or just come for a glass of ice tea or cup of coffee and conversation! Board games, card games, karaoke, movies, art, yard games, make your own ice cream & more! This will be time to gather together! Invite your kids, grandkids, neighbors and friends. This will be a good way to show others how we get along with each other by spending time with each other: time spent in fellowship. Humans are social beings, and we enjoy being treated nicely. Getting along with someone, regardless of their passions, isn t about being their best friend or sharing all their hobbies. It is about treating people with respect, care and commissioned disciples living as the Church, as living as neighbors! Speaking of neighbors a very special THANK YOU to our neighbors at Crown Towers for the INCREDIBLE brunch they provided on May 6 th and the fellowship that followed! It is pretty cool to have neighbors like we do! Together in ministry Pastor Di
