WORSHIP A Request to Pray the Rosary Next to the Mass, the Rosary is the most powerful prayer. Never has there been a greater need for prayer. Our Blessed Mother begs us, particularly those graced with the knowledge and appreciation of the power of the Rosary, to pray the Rosary every day for world peace, for the end of abortion, discernment between good and evil, vocations, lukewarm and fallen away Catholics, marriages, political civility, for souls in purgatory, for the intentions of the Holy Father, and especially for those in most need of God s mercy. Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory (733-5823). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and email it to the partners who have emails, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, 733-5823, with your interest. The ANNUAL PRAYER LINE PARTNERS BREAKFAST will be Saturday, January 26 th, right after the 8:15a.m. Mass. As in years prior, it will take place at Donovan s Irish Pub at the Eastfield Mall. Please R.S.V.P. (REGRETS ONLY) to Ann at 733-5823 by the Monday before the event (January 21 st ) so we can give an accurate count to the restaurant. They open up and bring in staff especially for us, so we should be as courteous as possible by giving them a true count. Thank you!! We encourage you to clip and save the prayers for future worship. I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard, I felt the answer in my heart although He spoke no word. I didn t ask for wealth or fame (I knew you wouldn t mind), I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind. I asked that He d be near you at the start of each new day, to grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all! Frank Zamboni STEWARDSHIP Collections for Christmas Eve and Day total $7,887.00! Collections for December 29 & 30 total $9,841.03! Many thanks for your generosity! 0907 Page 4

Thank You from our Seminarians It is with very grateful hearts, that we thank the people at the Diocese of Springfield for their generosity toward our seminarian fund this Christmas! Your overwhelming generosity is much appreciated and shows how many people are supportive of and helping to create a culture of vocations. Please know of our prayers for you and your loved ones, and please remember us in your prayers. Gratefully, the seminarians of the Diocese of Springfield Sr. Melinda continues seeking DONATIONS of individually wrapped cookies, small candy bars, Tootsie rolls, lollipops, granola, and packs of peanut butter crackers for the candy bags that our parish is providing to Holy Cross to enhance their Sandwich Ministry for the homeless. Any of these items that you can provide is warmly appreciated! The OPEN PANTRY is very much in need of the following food items (their shelves are more empty than they should be at this time) - Oatmeal or Hot Cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned meats and Spaghetti Sauce But please, we ask that you do not bring any: Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.) Pick-ups are not done every week, so any items like this will go bad. Partially used/opened items Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot give them items that have expired. Thank you very much for whatever you are able to donate! SERVICE 16 th Annual MICAH Awards Dinner Saturday, February 2, 2019, 5-9p.m. at Cedar s Banquet Hall, 375 Island Pond Road in Springfield, Social Hour begins at 5p.m., Program begins at 6:00p.m. Honoring Holy Name Parishioner Sandra Sandy Hines Each year, the MICAH (Ministry in Community Action Honorees) Awards Dinner provides the membership of PVP the opportunity to express its appreciation for the contributions of an individual from each organization who exemplifies the words of the prophet Micah: He has shown you what is good; And what does the Lord want of you but to do justice and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8) We invite Sandy s family, friends and Holy Name Parishioners to take part in this special evening, and hope that many will be able to attend. If you want to reserve a table or purchase individual tickets, please call Ann at the rectory. Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table of ten. 0907 Page 5

LOAVES AND FISHES You are invited to join with other volunteers on the first Monday of every month to come to South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding experience, and it is so organized, it won t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, 733-5823, or if you decide to come and don t have time to call ahead, that s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and be out in about an hour. You ll find plenty of safe, off-street parking right in the church parking lot. Since we have lost some of our volunteers, if you can help out, it would be greatly appreciated!! Congratulations to Msgr. David Joyce. Please join us in congratulating none other than our own Fr. Joyce, who was named Parade Marshal for the 2019 St. Patrick s Day Parade! He will be honored at the 2019 Colleen Coronation Ball and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, January 26th at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel. Enjoy a three course dinner to include appetizers, entre, dessert and coffee. There will be a cash bar, and cocktails are at 5:30p.m. Music by Jimmy McArdle. Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. David, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at 733-5823 and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. EDUCATION IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS..
