In the year 1688 Baptismal Certificate There is no note mention of the birth and baptism of Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer, who should have been born in June of the year 1688, although these 17th Century Registers are made up of records that were kept quite timely and accurately. Thus we can assume that the family settled in this place only after the birth of Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer. Pfungstadt, 14 July 1891 Evangelical Pfungstadt Koch, Pastor Pfungstadt Added Remark: Thus the death entry from the year 1727 on page 173 is correct: On March 23rd, the Sunday of Laetare, Heinrich Seibel, miller at the Fleischmühle, was deceased, and was buried on the 25th, the Day of Anna Maria. He was 53 years, 3 month, and 2 weeks old. Thus the Fleischmühle came into the possession of the Heppenheimer family only after the beginning of the 18th Century. 7 7 or literally: meaning that the Fleischmühle in possession of the Heppenheimer family was still in other hands in the beginning of the 18th Century 12

Preliminary Notes In a record from 1721 (see extract), the mill where Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer was working was called the Frankensteiner Mill. In 1659 (Page 198) it belonged to the miller Johann Bastian Dobus 9, who was getting married that year. In 1717 ( Page 166) Johann Melchior Bos, a pious, honest man was noted to be the miller of the Frankensteiner Mill. Since he died on 22 January of that year, we can assume that the mill passed into the hands of the Leißler-Heppenheimer family at this time (see Extract 1721, page 292). In 1723 (Page 298) Johann Peter Leißler Junior was listed as miller at the Frankensteiner Mill when his wife Maria Margaretha Wiemer, who was born in Eberstadt, was mentioned. He was a son of Johann Peter Leißler Senior, and brother-in-law of Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer and appears to have come into possession of the Frankensteiner Mill after his father and brother-in-law had taken over the Oberbrücken Mill. From 1723 on, the latter were both called Oberbrücken millers. After his father s death on 30 August 1728 (see Page 175 C), he inherited the Oberbrücken Mill, or at the very least, he was called the Oberbrücken miller in 1730 (Page 63 l). Around that same time Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer purchased the Fleischmühle 10, which had been vacant since the death of it s former owner in 1727, Johann Heinrich Seipel. The latters wife died in 1729 (Page 175 r). 9 here spelled Dobus, but should likely be Debus 10 translated: Meat Mill 20

He was called Fleischmüller, miller at the Fleischmühle, when he was mentioned as godparent of the Oberbrücken miller Johann Peter Leißler Junior s child (173, page 63 l). Until this time Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer the First was apparently either a business partner of his father-in-law, or he might have been employed by him. His father seems to have resided with him, and was not working during his old age, as he was never mentioned in conjunction with a mill. He was only referred to as the miller. The Heppenheimer surname appears for the first time in the church book in the marriage record of Johann Ludwig Heppenheimer in 1711 (Page 329 r, see extract). Pfungstadt, 19 July 1891 Koch 21

To Attorney-at-Law Mr. Gallus Eberstadt, 27 August 1891 Darmstadt In answer to your request pertaining to your Heppenheimer family tree, I d like to begin by stating that the task of looking up and deciphering old records, in as far I was able to fit it in besides my official work, is very time-consuming the older volumes of records are not indexed and no dates for the time before 1718 were found thus far. A note in the year 1727 states: on 14 October was married Joh. Georg Heppenheimer, a butcher by profession, single son of the miller Joh.
