LAFAYETTE LITTLE LEAGUE AND PARKING - UPDATE As all may know, Lafayette Little League is a wonderful organization providing so very much to our children. They lease the park for their playing from the city, but the challenge is the parking. They are land locked and do not have the parking to accommodate all who come to participate, so they have used our parking facilities. At times they use between sixty to eighty percent of our parking space. This has and is creating a problem for the church and the times we need the parking for ourselves. For ten years I have tried to work with the organization which has been challenging in many ways. But I did want all to know that I have sent them a letter in which I am requesting that they might lease some of the parking they require, with stipulations, just as they lease from the city the park itself or any other alternative. As it is Holy Cross s parking lot, we have first use as well as how it is to be used by outside organizations. Our first meeting with their representative went well and I am hopeful that a resolution might be worked out. THAT MAN IS YOU is a program for men to help them become "men of God" in the fullest sense. The meetings address topics that refer to men and their challenges in life. THAT MAN IS YOU meets on Friday mornings at 5:45 am in the Calais Center. All men (18 and older) are invited! Early rising is a great sacrifice, but the results are heavenly! Vietnamese and Hispanic Contributions The Second Vatican Council brought changes to the worship of the faithful of the Diocese, most notably in the change from a primarily Latin liturgy to an entirely vernacular Mass. While some still spoke French in the home, Masses throughout the Diocese were said in English. But the decades following the Council would bring new languages and new traditions into the Diocese of Lafayette. Vietnamese and Hispanic Catholics have brought new voices to the local Church since the 1970s. Since that time, Catholics can worship not just in English, but in Vietnamese and in Spanish on every Sunday in the Diocese of Lafayette. The Vietnamese and Hispanic traditions have brought new vibrancy to the faith of Acadiana. As Catholics, we all bear witness to the truth that the Church is truly "Universal" - not particular to one language, or race, or culture. In Christ we are all one body. Vietnamese Mass continues to be offered every Sunday at St. Mary Magdalen in Abbeville and at St. Jules in Lafayette. Sunday Masses in Spanish held throughout the Diocese: at Wisdom, St. Theresa in Abbeville, St. Jules in Lafayette, and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Church Point. For more, visit: www.diolaf.org Centennial News - Sunday, October 28, 2018 A Diocese of All Saints - The Churches of the Diocese of Lafayette are under the patronage of a wide array of Saints. The Blessed Mother is the most popular patron of Acadiana Churches with 34 Churches under her patronage through a variety of titles. St. Joseph has 14 Churches under his patronage. Other patrons span the centuries from St. Peter to St. Pius X, and from St. Mary Magdalen to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Only 8 Church parishes do not evoke a Saint in their patronage. Five of those belong to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, while Holy Ghost, Holy Trinity, and Holy Cross round out the eight. Centennial Mass All are Invited the closing Mass for the Centennial Year of our Diocese will be December 12 th at the Cajundome Convention Center at 6pm. Our Diocese and the wonderful people of our diocese and how God has poured forth His Love and guidance upon us in these last 100 Years will be the focus A Century of Love. Along with the Mass, there will be an Historical Display before and after the Mass as well as a presentation of the many people and cultures of our Diocese. The doors will open at 4:30 because there will be much to be a part of and see. All Catholics throughout our whole Diocese are invited and encourage to attend. Please mark your calendars.
