CHURCH OF ST. ADALBERT Celebrating and Sharing the Gift of God s Love with Everyone! 2 ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME January 15, 2017 (518) 346 4204 * 550 Lansing Street * Schenectady, NY 12303 Website@www.rcda.org/churches/churchofstadalbert Facebook @stadalbertschenectady Our Parish and God s Love Have No Borders! All Are Welcome!
In July 2016, we placed our parish in the prayerful hands of Saints Joachim and Anne. We asked that they intercede with their grandson, Jesus, as we discern our parish s future role in Christ s mission and the best use of our parish s resources to accomplish that. Sts. Joachim and Anne, pray for us! Święci Joachim i Anna, módl się za nami! Santi Gioacchino e Anna, prega per noi! San Joaquín y Santa Ana, ruega por nosotros! Sts. Joachim na Anne, tuombeeni! Please pray for the Resurrection unto eternal life of Rudolph Valentino Monday, January 16, 2017 Parish Offices closed in observance of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day During the month of January the Church asks us to pray and reflect on the: THE SACRAMENT OF FIRST RECONCILIATION Saturday January 21, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Church of Saint Adalbert Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Unity. What does "unity" mean? For those of us who claim Christ as our model of living and savior of humanity, it means we are one. This year, the theme is from 2 Corinthians 5:1420. The first line contains our mission statement... "For the love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore, all have died." If that is not a mandate for unity, then there is none. We are one in the death and Resurrection of Christ and therefore live in unity with all other Christians. PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY God, who are unity in three holy persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit you have called us to live in peace with all people. You have also called us to work toward unity in purpose to spread the Gospel to all nations. Graciously give us the courage and strength to work toward unity, and act toward each other as brothers and sisters. We ask this in the unity of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen. Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service. PRAYER FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOLS Dear Lord, bless those who work and learn in our Catholic schools. Give our teachers the grace every day to be models of you to all they meet. Give our students the desire to learn their lessons, and also to grow closer to you through our Mother and our brother and sister saints. Give our administrators the guidance they need to balance the needs of the schoolwith a life modeled on you and your compassion. Give our school parents the understanding, to make the most of school based on you for the academic and spiritual lives of their children. Amen. 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia (Our Lady of High Grace) Saturday, January 21 This devotion originated in the Dominican Republic and was encouraged by Pope St. John Paul II Feast of St. Antony the Great (Monk, Abbot) Tuesday, January 17 St. Anthony lived in Egypt and is honored as the Father of Christian Monasticism for his inspiring the founding of hermitages and monasteries in the 4th Century A.D. He is honored in the Roman, Orthodox, and Coptic Christian Churches. Men are often called intelligent wrongly. Intelligent men are not those who are erudite in the sayings and books of the wise men of old, but those who have an intelligent soul and can discriminate between good and evil. They avoid what is sinful and harms the soul; and with deep gratitude to God they resolutely adhere by dint of practice to what is good and benefits the soul. These men alone should truly be called intelligent.
