We had a deeply spiritfilled pilgrimage that brought many graces. Our prayers were with you too as we took you along our pilgrimage in a spiritual way. You and your petitions were carried with us to every holy site and placed at the altar during each Mass we celebrated. We are all one flock of Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd; therefore, even time and space cannot separate us. Our connection in Christ keeps us together no matter where we may find ourselves in the world. This is the wonderful beauty of being a member of the body of Christ. He came for us all, that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Our life in Christ means we are never without companionship and are not left to carry our cross alone. Our spiritual connection is even more powerful than death. Our ancestors who have gone before us remain a part of the one fold just in a different reality. Some are being purified to receive fully the gift of Heaven and some have received the eternal reward of abundant life. Our connection with them prompts us to pray for the first group and ask for prayers from the second. We also look forward to that day when the Lord calls us home to Him and await that day living faithfully to His commands. Our faith holds us firm in preparing for our eventual death and movement toward our Heavenly home where we will share perfect union with the whole flock of Christ in God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Until that day, we walk together on this earth in support of one another through prayer and relationship. REMEMBER IN PRAYER Pray For The Sick Leslie Meek, Brandon Janak, Colton May, Bruce Cornelson, Annabelle Van Deursen, Bill Maxwell, Evie Meek, Rosie Merta, Everett Clark, Gary Polasek, Clifton Bram, Anton Tupa, Dolores Priesmeyer, Melody Macha, Henrietta and Milton Machacek, Josephine Dusek, Johnnie Mican, Meriam Riha, Jeff Zamazal, Kristen Lezak, Deacon Jarrel Nohavitza, Diane Cerny, Bubba Baker, Abby Goerig, Sammy Tupa, Dora Caserez, Henrietta Preite, Francis Stock, Benjamin Korenek, Lillian Hansen, Carly Walker and all the homebound.

FIRST READING - Wisdom 1:13-15, 2:23-24 God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living. For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome, and there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the netherworld on earth, for justice is undying. For God formed man to be imperishable; the image of his own nature he made him. But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who belong to his company experience it. SECOND READING - 2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15 Brothers and sisters: As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also. For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality. As it is written: Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less. GOSPEL - Mark 5:21-43 When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea. One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward. Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, "My daughter is at the point of death. Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live." He went off with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him. There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages NEXT SUNDAY S READINGS JULY 1, 2018 3. for twelve years. She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured." Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?" But his disciples said to Jesus, "You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'" And he looked around to see who had done it. The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction." While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official's house arrived and said, "Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?" Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid; just have faith." He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official, he caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. So he went in and said to them, "Why this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep." And they ridiculed him. Then he put them all out. He took along the child's father and mother and those who were with him and entered the room where the child was. He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum," which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!" The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around. At that they were utterly astounded. He gave strict orders that no one should know this and said that she should be given something to eat. Although it was beloved in previous centuries, Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673, showing her a vision of the nowfamous image of His Sacred Heart, surrounded by flames. He said to her: My Heart is so full of love for men that It can no longer contain the flames of Its burning love. I must discover to men the treasures of My Heart and save them from perdition." She was given the special mission to spread devotion to His Sacred Heart throughout the Church. Jesus gave St. Margaret Mary many promises associated with this devotion, and requested that a feast day in honor of His Sacred Heart be instituted on the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi. In 1856, the Feast of the Sacred Heart was spread to the Universal Church, and in 1899 Pope Leo XIII solemnly consecrated all mankind to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, calling it the great act of his pontificate. From Scripture Luke 1:57-66:80, St. John the Baptist The birth of St. John the Baptist was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, especially those of Isaiah: Behold the voice of one crying in the wilderness. That was John s purpose, to prepare the way for his cousin, Jesus. He s considered the last prophet of the Old Testament and a bridge between the two testaments. Like other prophets, the Baptist received his name from God. John means God is graceful. His mission was to preach that God is graceful to those who repent and turn to him. It took courage for John to preach the imminent coming of the Kingdom of God with the advent of the Messiah. When he preached repentance to Herod Antipas, who was living in sin with his brother s wife, he paid the price of his fidelity to God s mission with suffering and death. St. John s mission is as relevant today as it was in Jesus day. He challenges us to repentance and belief in Jesus as our Savior. Our challenge is to heed John s call to renounce sin, turn to God, and pray for grace. Summer Reading for Spirit Looking for summer reading that goes far beyond a beach book? Have you given up hope that they can be? 1 Corinthians 13:13 tells us the greatest of these is Love. Living in a marriage that is missing love can be difficult. If you have given up hope that your marriage can and will get better, ask your spouse to prayerfully consider the two of you attend a Retrouvaille program. Retrouvaille is an international Christian-based ministry that offers a three-stage program to help couples improve their marriages. First, a weekend program is attended, followed by six post-weekend meetings. Finally, an ongoing monthly small group of couples gather for support and growth. If improving your marriage is important to you, reach out today. For more information about the Victoria August 3-5 Retrouvaille weekend, contact John or Jennifer Vincent at 361-580-2770 or email jbvjov@sbcglobal.net or visit the website at HelpOurMarriage.org. Special Prayer Intention of Pope Francis for June Lord God, During this month of June, we ask that social networks may not be used to exclude others but rather be used to work toward inclusiveness and to respect the differences of others.
