He or she weighs almost 2 pounds. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. His/her hand coordination has increased and the baby can now move the thumb in opposition to the fingers. Eyes are now open though the baby is still in the darkness in the womb. Little deposits of fat, which retain heat, begin to form. The uterus allows some light to be seen so the baby begins to distinguish between lightness and darkness. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - DIAPER DRIVE April 7th & 8th, 2018 The Knights of Columbus will be collecting diapers today. These diapers support women that have chosen life instead of abortion. ST. JUDE THADDEUS - EASTER VIGIL At the Easter Vigil on Holy urday night, March 31, 2018, the community assembled for the Vigil Mass. The Church has always recognized that in baptism, we die to sin in Christ's death and rise to new life with him. The Easter Vigil is the primary celebration of the Lord's Resurrection and is the most appropriate occasion for the elect to celebrate their Sacrament of Baptism, and together with the candidates be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church as well as to also receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Eucharist. This year, our parish community was also graced with a fourth sacrament of Matrimony celebrated at this liturgy as well. The candidates, who professed their faith in Confirmation, the one young lady who received First Eucharist, and the elect who were baptized are all now known as neophytes a term they will use for a full year. These 11 people: Rose, Sergio, Gianna, John Jr. Jocelyn, Regina, Aura, Robert, Genevieve, John Sr., and Marianna continue their RCIA journey for a few more weeks to reflect deeper on their commitment to the Lord, to the Church and to the local Catholic community. This time of unfolding the meaning of the initiation sacraments is called mystagogia. The neophytes together with their godparents (sponsors) continue this journey with the team in prayer and catechesis. Our newly baptized will proudly wear their white baptismal garment to Mass each Sunday through Pentecost. These people are not finished learning about their faith, nor are any of us. The journey of faith lasts a lifetime. The members of the Body of Christ seek out a life in Christ, participating in the faith community, sharing their faith with others, and celebrating the Eucharist regularly. They in turn will be the light of Christ to bring their non-christian family members, friends and colleagues to encounter the God of their lives. During the period of mystagogy the newly baptized and newly fully initiated members join with other members of the worshipping assembly to reflect on their experiences at the Easter Vigil and continue to learn more about the Scriptures, the sacraments, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. In addition, they reflect on how they will serve Christ and help in the Church's mission and outreach activities. Full initiation is not simply a membership. Initiation takes this further. First, there is no premium we could pay to be initiated into Jesus Christ and his community of disciples. Jesus has paid that premium himself by dying and rising for the forgiveness of sin and to bring all who believe to eternal life in total joy. Initiation involves transformation, becoming like Him whom we follow in as much as God's grace can bring about. Initiation means our mind, our emotions, our body, and our immortal soul are opened up to the transforming power of God in Jesus. The Period of Mystagogy will last up to a year. This is an opportunity to continue reflecting on and sharing about the Sunday scriptures and to become actively involved in the ministries of the Parish. A fully initiated Catholic can be: A godparent A Confirmation sponsor A lector who reads scripture at Mass An extraordinary minister of the Eucharist at Mass or to the homebound A Sacristan A Cantor And many other ministries in which they could not partake without being fully initiated.
