The length of this season differs each year - it s long this year, ending on Sunday, March 3. Ash Wednesday is on March 6. This Sunday we will hear the story from Luke about Jesus baptism, then follow Jesus as he begins his ministry in subsequent weeks. We resume children s Sunday school this Sunday, and our Senior High members will begin their discussions about the meaning of confirmation in the church. Adult Forums resume with a speaker from Project Legacy this week and the second in a series of Forums for Parents of Sunday school aged children on January 20. Our Adult Faith Formation and Sacred Circle teams have been planning forums and events for our spiritual growth, the Log College Team is hard at work and many of you are preparing reports for our Annual Meeting on January 27. I hope that you will find ways to connect at Calvary in this season that we celebrate the Light of the World, Jesus Christ. As the Magi took the story of the miraculous birth of Christ out into the world, we will continue to do that same thing at Calvary, equipping everyone to be able to go out into the

Program fee $20 (all workshop materials are provided) Please call church office to sign up 507.282.9429 and if you have any questions, email Elise at hollymaedesigns@icloud.com A Path of Peace: Yoga and Meditation Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm, Crawford Hall January 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, February 5th and 12th, 2019 (Please arrive 10 minutes early to set up) The physical practice of yoga prepares the body, breath, mind, and spirit to enter into the quiet space of meditation. In this six- week series, we will begin each session with a gentle yoga practice and conclude with a guided meditation. This class is suitable for adult beginners as well as those experienced in yoga who wish to deepen their practice. All aspects of the practices are adaptable to practice in a chair or with assistive devices. We will welcome Patricia Barrier, a registered yoga teacher, who teaches gentle and adaptive yoga, beginner yoga and Vinyasa flow classes at public and private venues in the local Rochester area. Project Legacy was one of the recipients of Calvary s Angel Tree gifts this year come and hear how we can continue to help Project Legacy to make a difference in the lives of the youth they serve. The Parish Life core is calling singers, dancers, magicians, family bands, slam poets, drama queens, and showmen of all ages! This is your chance to perform in the first annual Calvary Variety Show on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at 3:00 pm in Brackenridge Hall. This intergenerational, family-friendly event promises to be the greatest show in Rochester! We welcome individual or group acts and no auditions are necessary. Just tell us about your talent and we ll put you in the show. We will provide a piano, stage, and MC. You provide the fun and laughs! Everyone is welcome to attend as we will need lots of spectators for cheers and applause. Bring an appetizer or dessert to share (always optional- only if you wish) and we will gather after the show for food and fellowship. Popcorn and beverages provided. Contemplative Art Workshop Thursday, February 21st, 2019. 6:00-8:00 pm: Art-making is a contemplative practice that affects us internally, through our thoughts and emotions, as well as externally, through the creation of objects and images that can serve as sources of inspiration and healing. In this workshop, we will use colored pencils to personalize a printed mandala (a design of concentric circles and geometric shapes symbolizing unity, harmony, and wholeness). Parishioner and resident artist, Barb Schwenk will begin with a brief introduction to coloring and blending techniques and then allow quiet time to work on your mandala. There will be two mandala designs to choose from and all materials, hot beverages and treats will be provided. Please call church office to sign up 507-282-9429 Save the Date... CONFIRMATIONS, RECEPTIONS, REAFFIRMATIONS AT CALVARY WITH BISHOP PRIOR Bishop Brian Prior will be making his final visit to Calvary on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:00 pm. Bishop Prior is retiring in February, 2020 following the election of Minnesota s next Bishop in September. A confirmation class for all in 9th - 12 grades begins this Sunday, January 13. Parents of children in those grades have been sent information about each class date in an email. If you are a parent of a 9th - 12th grader and did not receive that email, please call the church office. All adults interested in being confirmed, reaffirmed or received are invited to a class called Episcopal 101 that starts on Sunday, March 10 and will continue through Lent and end on April 28. Episcopal 101 is offered for any adult interested in the Episcopal Church, and not limited to those interested in confirmation. The service on May 7 is open to all Episcopalians in the Southeast Mission Area.
