COUNCIL HISTORY A TRUE STORY, A PROUD MAN It was a cold winter night in the year nineteen hundred seventy-three, a group of your brother knights had been spending their evenings working on our future home. Many nights it would be mid-night before they would call it an evening and go home because we all had to go to work the next day. The gentle man I will tell you about was one of our leaders. He had his wife bring him out to the building, after his evening meal so he could get to work; he was alone, no phones, no heat and no car. The building had only the outside walls completed and inside a concrete floor, the walls were completed only to the studs. No heat, no water, only lights hanging where needed. After sometime he became concerned because no one came to work this evening. Darkness had set in and he became worried. The bridge across the Cass River on East Dayton Rd. had been closed because of an accident that took out the bridge. He had to walk home in a cold dark night. This was not a pleasant trip and one we would not forget. You see he was that Irishman that had a dream of our future and this was not a good night. We teased him on many occasions about his night walking home, but it was not funny. Patrick Boylan was his name, and he was a big part of our council of success that we enjoy today. All these little things make up who we are, and many more stories of the past that can be told. Then there was a time the building association went to Detroit to complete some paper work on the property we had acquired for part of the additional land for the ball fields. Shots were fired at the car, they were riding in, but no one was hurt. No one was injured only our feelings. Many people helped in many ways to bring our dream to this point and today we have new goals to achieve, different directions to go, but always with charity as our first principal of the order. Remember in your prayers John Hoy, Jerry Brown, Ed Frick, Joe Orban, Mike Marker, Dornie Edwards, John Foley, Rod Ryder, Pat Boylan, Col. Fred Hassel, Bill Touchette, Leo Wahl and many more that have passed away. Respectfully Submitted: Richard T. Bertrand, P.G.K. June 1, 2015
