Reflections: Welcome Summer Reading At the beginning of every summer, noted authors and literary experts make a list of the Top Ten Books of the Summer. These are the books everyone will be reading and talking about over the next two months. The sad thing about these lists is, in most cases, few books of a religious nature make the cut. So here are some of my suggestions for summer reading with a Christian theme. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, by Brant Petre Wow! This was one of the most important books I ve ever read. If you are looking for where Catholics find the Eucharist in the Bible this is your book. It begins with a personal journey of Dr. Petre that leads him to discover just how the Hebrew Testament points the way to Christ s true presence in the Eucharist. An absolute must read. Before I Was Me, by Frank Fraser Looking for a wonderful book to share with you little one this summer that lets them know how much God loves them? Then this is a wonderful book for you. Beautifully illustrated, this book is a great way to begin teaching your child about how much God loves them. God got a dog, by Cynthia Rylant Okay I m a dog person (sorry cat people). This is a wonderful book of poems that imagines God living among us. From tough looking bikers to hard working parents God knows our lives better than we think. A spirited look at life and its many colorful characters, oh and at the end God gets a dog! His Angels at Our Side, by Father Horgan Disclaimer I was recommended this book by a friend who heard about our message series on Angels. This is on my list of books I want to read this summer. God sends his holy angels to love and protect us. Their presence is constant and their love never ending. I can t wait! Close to Shore, by Michael Capuzzo This has nothing to do with faith or religion, but it is about SHARKS! Some of you know I LOVE sharks and this story reads like fiction. Set along the New Jersey shore at the turn of the 20 th Century, a hungry shark stalks the shores. This real life story was the inspiration behind the epic film Jaws. I ve read this book two times and look forward to reading it again perhaps at the beach! Enjoy the summer and God Bless, Deacon Chris

Welcome STEWARDSHIP / MINISTRIES: Sharing our time, treasure and talent with others. Young Neighbors In Action (YNIA) is a week-long service program for youth and their adult leaders. Next weekend, 23 people from our community will leave for their service week in Green Bay Wisconsin. They have prepared for this service event through educational sessions, prayer, involvement in local programs, and several fundraisers. Parish Giving Budgeted Average Weekly: $8,500 Actual w/e: 6/10/2018: $7,154 Thank You! Thank you to everyone who has made their donation to our Partners in Charity Annual Appeal. We have raised $31,745.00 of our $50,000.00 goal. "Loving God by serving others" Old Testament Humor New twist on Lot's tale... A father was reading Bible stories to his young son. He read, 'The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city, but his wife looked back and was turned to salt.' His son asked, 'What happened to the flea?'
