New at ChristChurch? Welcome to ChristChurch Redbourn This booklet will hopefully give you a flavour of who we are and what we get up to as a church family. For more information or to ask any questions, please feel free to contact any of the people on the back of this booklet. If you re visiting us for the first time on a Sunday morning, we hope that the information below will be helpful to you and that you enjoy the service - thanks for joining us today! Sunday Mornings at ChristChurch What to expect Our morning service starts at approx. 10.30am and ends at about 11.45am. The children stay in the service for the first 20 minutes and then head off to their groups. Follow the crowd as it leaves the service and one of our children s workers will look after you and settle your children into the relevant group. Alternatively ask a steward to introduce you to one of the leaders. During the service, we run a group for primary school aged children and a creche. For 11-16 year olds we provide a mixture of groups and support to help them integrate into the main service and church life. We aim to be relaxed as a church; babies and children are very welcome, as is the noise they inevitably bring, so please don t worry! We are so glad that you have picked up this booklet! Chris (our Minister) or one of our other leaders would love to meet you; to say hello, answer any questions you may have about Christchurch, Christianity, or life in general. Do call Chris (07717 533609) if you would like to chat. 2

A Message from Happy New Year and welcome to the Spring Term here at ChristChurch Redbourn! If you belong to one of the groups connected to the church or you are reading this and thinking about getting in touch, can I extend a really warm welcome to you? We would love to meet you if you have never been along on a Sunday, in fact if you let us know you are coming, we can meet you at the door and introduce you to a few friendly faces! Our Sunday service takes place at 10.30am in the church building on Fish Street. We are so pleased to welcome people of all ages on a Sunday and we have a great set of leaders who help run a crèche and groups for infants, juniors and 11+ s. We enjoy being a church family where everyone is welcome and looked after. This term we look forward to opening our building up to the village community on a Tuesday afternoon where all are welcome to stop by and enjoy free coffee, homemade cakes and have a space to chat and connect. Coffee, Cake and Chat launched last term and we look forward to building on this great start. We also look forward to the resumption of our after school drop-in Youth Café (The Pod), where youngsters can hop off the bus and stop by for refreshments, games and even get some homework done! A new venture this term will be a couple of trial late afternoon / early evening Sunday services. If Sunday mornings aren t possible for you, do see if you can join us for these (dates inside this booklet). During our summer term we are considering organising a Redbourn s Big Questions event, whereby the village registers the questions it is asking about life, God, the universe etc. and we will try to provide an answer to the most popular questions. Watch this space and have a think about what question you would most like answering! You can find all of the details regarding who we are and what s going on at the church by going to. There is something for everyone - from the Starfish baby and toddler group, to Munch and Natter for the retired - and much in between. If a phone call or face to face chat is more to your liking, do call me, the Minister, on 07717 533609. Chris. 3

How do we care for each other? Where do we go to if we need help or support? Your Growth Group Our aim in Growth Groups is to Grow! We want to grow in our knowledge of God and our walk with Him. In order to do that well, we try to meet together regularly in local homes to encourage and support each other! If you would like to join a group, then please contact Simon at 01582 840 790 or swjgarthwaite@btinternet.com. We believe that God has called us to be a family, and growth groups provide us with a better opportunity to know and care for each other. You could make your need known to your group or the group leader. Each growth group has a pastoral co-ordinator in it and they re there to make sure you receive the care and support that you need. At ChristChurch we also have a Pastoral Care Team and a Pastoral Support Worker - Gwyn Record. She would be more than happy to chat to you if you need support. You can call her on 01582 766268 or email her at gwynrecord@gmail.com. Membership at ChristChurch Our Sunday services are open to those of all faiths or none. But for those who are committed Christians and who decide to make ChristChurch their home, we would encourage you to think about becoming members of the church (please speak to a church leader for more information - see back cover for contact details). Weekly Emails If you re a regular attendee, please visit our website to sign up for our weekly news emails. If you have any questions, please speak to Lou on 07931 758 743 or at loubailey@btinternet.com 13

Who is Jesus? Why is there a group of people, in Redbourn, in 2019, who believe in him and call him things like Lord and Saviour? Why do they talk and sing about his death? Does it make any actual difference to their lives? At CCR we offer 3 courses that might help you to answer any of those, and any other questions you might have about Christianity: What s the best news you ve ever heard? Was it surprising? Did it change the way you think? Or was it something you wanted to be true but didn t dare hope? Christianity Explored is a way of finding out the best news ever heard, and gives you space and time to think about the big questions of life. Over 7 sessions in Mark s Gospel, find out more about the life of the person at the heart of the Christian faith - Jesus Christ. Life Explored is a seven session series featuring a combination of short films - shot around the world - and Bible interaction with plenty of discussion and opportunities to ask questions if you would like to. It s an investigation into life and those things that promise us so much happiness, yet deliver so little. As it explores the Bible story, Life Explored shows how our deepest desires for happiness can find true satisfaction. 14

What Is Christianity? What s the best love you ve ever known? Did it run smoothly or were there times of struggle? Was it a personal thing or something you shared with others? Did it fade over time or did it grow deeper and more substantial as the years rolled on? We believe the best love we ve ever known is the love of God shown to us in Jesus Christ. It s what brings us joy, sets us in community and strengthens us in difficulty. Join us to discover more about this love through Discipleship Explored, a study series in Philippians. As we read the Apostle Paul s encouragement to the church in Philippi, we can encourage each other with the joy we have in Christ and stand firm together in him. Discipleship Explored is an 8 session series for anyone who wants to make the most of their Christian lives. If you have been through Christianity Explored or have recently decided to follow Christ, then this is the perfect course for you. If you are interested in any of these courses, please feel free to contact Chris (07717 533609 or chrisjsmithccr@gmail.com) and he will be able to find some way for you to take part. 15
