We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance as we strive to bear witness to the Gospel and build an Amazing Parish. Amen

Our Seminarian Arturo Vigueras has been reassigned and sadly will no longer be at Our Lady of Peace Parish. Arturo will be greatly missed. He has been wonderful addition to our parish creating programs to enrich our souls and writing articles for the bulletin to educate us about our faith. As part of his going away present we are asking for donations to help get his car fixed. It needs some very expensive repairs. If you are able to help in any way, please make a check out to Arturo Vigueras and drop it off at church. Thank you for all your help it is much appreciated! God, bless all the fathers in the world. Guide them to be good role models and loving to all their children. Help them to be a father like You are. Give them grace and patience to handle situations in a loving way. Amen! WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED Question: If God knows everything we do, why do we need to go to Confession? Answer: Another term for the Sacrament of Confession is the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We go to this sacrament not only to confess our sins, but to be reconciled with God. Of course, this begs the question, "If I can pray to God on my own, why can't I be reconciled to God on my own?" In the seven sacraments, we recognize the importance of community. Sacraments like Baptism or Matrimony happen in the context of the wider church to remind us of the communal impact of our lives. We are not alone in our walk of faith! Congratulations to the Family of AVA ELISE GALL Daughter of Patrick and Cassie Gall Baptized on Sunday, June 17th Congratulations to the Family of BENJAMIN RYAN GULDAN Son of Matthew and Katie Guldan Baptized on Saturday, June 16th A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, June 12th for LORRAINE STERNWEIS Please remember her family in your prayers. Bear her gently to the Father s embrace to behold with joy our Savior s face until we meet again. 2 WELCOME TO OUR LADY OF PEACE PARISH

PARISH NEWS UNDERSTANDING THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND OUR OWN FAITH By Seminarian Arturo Vigueras The Mass readings for this Eleventh Sunday of Ordinary Time remind us that the Church of Christ is like a tree planted in the world from the smallest seed that has become one of the biggest and noblest trees that fill the earth. This strong tree is the physical manifestation of God s Kingdom. All of us, therefore, are encouraged to seek this kingdom with faith and love. God, through the Prophet Ezekiel, promised to restore, elevate and establish His chosen people who were in exile in Babylon. This means that our loving God is always wishing to transform and to transfer His people from a kingdom of gossip, oppression, poverty and austerity to a kingdom of tranquility, peace, justice and poverty. This is the kingdom where Christ reigns as King over His people and where he is the source of everlasting life. The visible sign of this kingdom is the Church to which all of God s people come to seek refuge and are transformed into a new creation that gives us our identity as beloved sons and daughters of God. St. Paul further reinforces our identity as beloved sons and daughters of God by reminding us that all of us are on a journey towards the Kingdom of God where Christ reigns and, consequently, all of us should be concerned on pleasing God. Our journey to the Kingdom of God is a journey which must be approached with faith as Paul tells us... going as we do by faith and not by sight, we are full of confidence and actually want to leave this body in order to be with Christ. Taking this into consideration all of us need to walk towards the Kingdom of God diligently and by faith so that all of us can be admitted into God s kingdom by Christ. In the Gospel reading, Christ uses two parables to describe, and invite us to the Kingdom of God. The kingdom to which Christ calls us grows gradually and steadily in our hearts and it is open to all who see it with a sincere heart and humility; just as the man who scatters the seed which over time sprouts and develops and then when the grain is ripe, the man harvests his crop. The emphasis in this parable is on the seed, which at first glance the seed seemingly has the power to grow on its own. The Kingdom of God is just like the seed that man scattered; you see, while on earth, Jesus planted the seeds of the kingdom by life, miracles, teaching and suffering. Although the Kingdom of God is already present in Jesus and in the Church, the Kingdom of God is yet to come to completion; just as they see in the parable, it needs time to grow so does God s kingdom. The second parable focuses on the tiny mustard seed, which for a firstcentury farmer in Jesus part of the world, it would have been the smallest seed the farmer planted; and once the seed was planted, it would develop into a tree. The mustard tree generally averages about nine to twelve feet in height. It has a wide expanse and provides a nesting place for birds. Just as the tree welcomes birds so is God s kingdom (i.e. the Church) welcoming and open to many. Both parables help us to understand something about the Kingdom of God and our own faith. It is in God that we live, move and have our being; yet God is a mystery and his kingdom, even though is present in our midst, it has not yet come to its fullness. Today the Kingdom of God is present in the Church and the mission of proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom was first given to the Apostles, and it is now given to all of us. However, just as seeds need time to grow and develop, once they are planted so does the Kingdom of God. That is why in the Lord s Prayer, all of us pray your kingdom come. We know that it will come in its fullness at the end of time. All that we need is Faith. MISSION STATEMENT LOVE GOD LOVE OTHERS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN As we continue to provide weekly updates on our Campaign s progress, it is good to note that the school gymnasium roof and valley system is in progress. As of June 11 100 Parishioners pledged and/or donated $218,360.87. We are at 58.2% of our goal of $375,000. As a Reminder: If you did not receive a pledge form in the mail, you can pick one up at the Welcome Desk, call the office at 715-384-9414, email the office at office@olpmarshfield.com or make your donation using Online Giving. For your convenience, pledge forms can also be dropped off at the Welcome Desk at the weekend Masses. LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, the tiniest of seeds. When planted, the tiny mustard seed grows into a tremendous tree with large branches. So, too, in each of our lives, small things can have profound effects. God can use one of our more insignificant gestures to radically change another person's life. It may be the kindness of a smile, our willingness to accommodate someone, listening to someone's story, helping someone who is hurting, standing up for someone who is right, or complimenting someone on something they did. We all have God-given gifts and talents. Our task is to use them creatively, consistently, lovingly, and generously. We trust that God will take care of the rest. OLP Vacation Bible School (VBS) Monday Friday, July 23-27 9:30 a.m. noon Your children are invited to grow in faith at a Totally Catholic VBS this summer! Discover how Jesus rescues us through life s storms. High school and middle school students are welcome to volunteer. This is an easy way to get a lot of service hours while having fun helping kids grow in faith. Registration forms and Volunteer Sign Up forms can be found at olpmarshfield.com and at the Welcome Desk in church. For more information, contact Joann Roehl at roehljoann@gmail.com.
