Dear parish family, 24 Sunday C We welcome back our children and youth on this weekend s opening of our religious education classes. We appreciate our volunteer teachers and aides and of course to their parents, their primary teachers, who brought them here. Children s liturgy of the Word at 10 AM Mass will resume. And may I also remind that we have a Nursery open for the 10 AM Mass. This is free of charge. So I ask the parents of toddlers or children up to 4 years old to avail this service. This is for your benefit that you can fully concentrate on the Holy Eucharist and worship with no hassles for at least an hour. Also for the respect of others who may be bothered at Mass by unruly or crying toddlers who have no fault on their own. In all three parables this Sunday Jesus tells us about God s initiative. God is the shepherd who goes looking for his lost sheep. God is like the woman who lights a lamp, sweeps out the house, and searches everywhere for her lost coin until she has found it. God is the father who watches and waits for his children, runs to meet them, embraces them, pleads with them, begs and urges them to come home. This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. This criticism against Jesus is actually unintentional praise. If we are honest, we know that we are among the sinners with whom Jesus breaks bread. Each of us, at one point or another along our journey of faith, feels lost in our sinfulness. No doubt all have experienced these moments big or small at some time or even at many times. How wonderful it is to hear once again parables of mercy in the gospel this Sunday for through them we discover that God is always ready to call us back when we are lost. Love and friendship should bring people together - we think of spouses, brothers and sisters, parents and children - but when there is a disagreement between them they all suffer. And when they reconcile themselves, what a relief! Joy lights up their face and fills their heart. More joy in heaven! This Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis challenges us to live up the gospel message not only as recipient of mercy but also to be the givers of mercy: To become searching shepherds, sweeping women, mercifully seeking lost people that God needs to find. And finally inviting us to promise that whenever someone returns after wandering far, our unconditional love will welcome them home to rejoice in God s embrace. Or we can sum up the gospel message to be, GOD IS LOOKING FOR YOU - LET YOURSELF BE FOUND! Blessings to all and have a good week! Fr. Padre Tony

Garland of Mercy... In this Jubilee Year, we are asked to open our eyes and hearts to see how God is working in our lives and to more actively spread His mercy out to others. We are creating a Garland of Mercy with our teen group to bear witness to our efforts to help others. For the entire year, we are asking each week when you do works of mercy, to write down one or more works on the strips of paper in the ends of the pews. Please put them into the collection basket so that we offer up, not just our treasure to the Lord, but our time and talent in a visible way. Red Strips are for The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, visiting the sick or imprisoned. White Strips are for The Spiritual Works of Mercy: Counseling the doubtful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving offences willingly and praying for the living and the dead. Gold Ones are for the acts of mercy which we received from others. I know that all of you are part of spreading God s mercy out into the world. Please take the time to become more conscious of it and take credit for it here before the Lord. 5
