Respect for the Lifestyle of the Friars We remind parishioners that the Friars have a schedule of prayer and meals that needs to be respected. The communal prayer takes place at 11:45 a.m. and at 4:45 p.m. It is truly annoying to have the telephone or doorbell ringing at these mes. In addi on, the communal meal is enjoyed at noon. This is community me for the Friars. Please be more careful to observe office hours Monday through Friday (9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.). Father Jacob is Now Online Father Jacob has an email account set to communicate with the parishioners. It is fatherjacob@charter.net. Protecting Our Children--Safe Environment Given the recent public outcry over abuse of children in the Catholic Church, a FIRM policy is needed. Join us in protec ng the children. Events Outside the Parish 1. The Conventual Franciscans of Our Lady of Consolation Province (headquartered in Indiana) staffed the parish from about the 1930s to about the 1970s. Perhaps you have old pictures or other items lying around the house that depict a friar or friars working in the parish. The Province Archives of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation and the former Custody of Our Lady of Guadalupe would love to have them. The Archives Office of the Province would be willing to take such items. A note attached to the items explaining dates, people involved, etc. would be greatly appreciated. They can be sent to: Province Archives, 101 St. Anthony Drive, Mt. St. Francis, IN 47146 or emailed to oldarchives@franciscansusa.org. 2. O en enough we hear and agree with the lament of the people of Israel asking God why the wicked prosper. However, when we call out for jus ce, we usually want someone to get his or her comeuppance. God s jus- ce is something other than this, of course. God s jus ce comprises a wonderful rightness between God and humankind. Today, Jeremiah looks ahead to a me when a just one will sprout from the shorn-off stump of Jesse of the house and family of David. Life was not fair in Jeremiah s me. Israel s kings held the promise of God s fidelity, but it was difficult to see how God s promise could be realized through them. Nevertheless, Jeremiah li s his voice and announces that the Promised One will come. Luke s Gospel echoes that announcement, and Paul is filled with sturdy encouragement. And so Advent begins with a promise. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
