Women s Prayer Group The Women s Prayer Group calls the women of St. Mark parish who wish to deepen their relationship with the Lord and one another to prayerful discussions of scripture and Church teaching on a variety of themes. It seeks to support, befriend, and bond the women of the parish as they seek to integrate faith with their vocations as married, single and religious Catholic women of the twenty first century. The giving and receiving of spiritual support is the fruit of the women s gathering which takes place in the prayerful setting of our parish every third Friday evening of the month at 7:30PM in the St. Clare Room. Please contact Joanne Bock at 561-752-5602 if you wish further information. Bible Study All Parishioners and their guests are invited to join us on Tuesday evenings from 7-8 PM in the St. Clare Room of the St. Francis Center. We will be studying the Book of Acts which tells the story of the spread of the Gospel and the growth of the early church from its beginnings at Pentecost, following the Ascension of Jesus. We will learn how the Holy Spirit empowers the preaching of Peter, Paul, and the other disciples to take the faith from Jerusalem, to Judea, throughout Samaria and ultimately to the ends of the earth. Please call Vic Coppola, 561-736-7812. A free will offering of $15.00 is requested for the study guides. Caregivers, Christ and Chocolate (A Support Group for Adult Caregivers ) You are invited to be an integral part of this new ministry which meets Wednesdays from 2:00 PM -3:30 PM in the St. Clare Room. For information call Suzanne Knox 561-267-1884 or Ron Albano 561-274- 9553. All Ages Invited!! TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Old customs fade slowly, and in 1560 the Council of Trent tried for significant change in pastoral care of the sick. People resisted, thinking that the last breath was the right time for the sacrament. Although physical improvement was often noted after anointing, it was seen as a kind of bonus, rather than an expected outcome of a prayer for good health, strength, patience, and even healing. More than four hundred years later, many people still do not ask for anointing until it is literally too late for the person to have reasonable hope of healing, or at least be aware enough to participate in the ritual. By then, it may even be too late for viaticum, the true last rite. We have a treasure in our tradition that we seem reluctant to use. We visit the sick, we anoint those who are in the first crisis of illness, we give Communion to those who are dying, and we keep vigil and pray for those close to death. When anointing is celebrated early enough, optimally when the sick person is still at Sunday Mass, it can be a source of courage, faith, and hope for a difficult road ahead. When we anoint our sick, we remind them that they belong to Christ and a community of faith. We bring them into the presence of Christ to reconcile, heal, and give strength and hope. We resist forces that isolate and alienate the sick; the symbol of touch is a powerful act of acceptance. Why wait until the crisis of illness is dire before we apply such a rich remedy to body and soul? Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. 4 JOY ~ The fullness of joy is to behold God in everything. St. Julian

FYI: January 18, 2015 This weekend we welcome Bishop Barbarito who will be here to officially install yours truly as the Pastor of St. Mark s Parish. The Bishop remarked to me recently that he always enjoys his visits to St. Mark. (I think he was hinting that I should get the guest room ready for him!) Please welcome him with your presence at the Mass and at the reception following the Mass. I will also be welcoming my two sisters, Sheila & Peggy. They both still live in Buffalo. So this trip down to sunny Florida will be for them a treat as it is seeing their brother! (Not!, but we all have our hallucinations!) I am sure they will be more than glad to tell you stories about my childhood. Just pray Sheila doesn t bring the baby pictures. On a more serious note, this coming Thursday, January 22 nd marks the anniversary of Roe v. Wade which legalized abortion in our country. The Bishops of the United States have asked all Catholics to use this day as a day of prayer, sacrifice and penance. Following the 8:00 a.m. Mass, the Eucharist will be enthroned for adoration. Please join in our prayer for the support of all human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. Adoration will take place in the Main Church. The day will conclude at 7:00 p.m. with Evening Prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. There will be no Holy Hour for Life on Wednesday, January 21st, 2015. BLOOD DRIVE St. Mark Catholic Church Sunday, January 18, 2015 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM All donors will receive a T-shirt and a wellness checkup including blood pressure, temperature, iron count, pulse and cholesterol screening! Contact Mary Silva 954-646-5751 Finally, this week we begin the Octave for Christian Unity. This week has been celebrated for over fifty years. It is a time to reflect and pray for the day that all who believe in Christ may be one. Brothers & Sisters, while we have time, let us do good! Fr. Dan Coffee & Donuts are sponsored by: A. Cremation Service of the Palm Beaches. The collection for January 11th was $16,767.00 The Christmas Offering was $37,300.00 5 The second collection is for Catholic School support.
