General Council Meeting Wednesday, April 15, 2015 7:15 PM, Officer Meeting: Tuesday April 7, 7:00 PM St. Mary Room All Worthy Brother Knights are welcome As April 5 th is EASTER SUNDAY and May 3 rd is FIRST HOLY COMMUNION Sunday at Holy Family, 9:30AM Mass will NOT be celebrated as a Knights Family Mass nor will donuts and coffee be offered after Mass. We will resume our usual Knights Family Mass schedule on Sunday, June 7 th at the 9:30 AM Mass. ************************************************************** GRAND KNIGHT NOTES Easter Sunday is fast approaching and I am amazed how fast the 2014-2015 program year is nearing its end. I would like to note that our usual Knight Family Mass with coffee/donuts the first Sunday of the month for April and May are cancelled due to Easter and First Holy Communion Sunday. Please plan to resume this tradition on June 7th. We will, however, have a pancake breakfast on April 19th. I continue to recommend Symbolon as an excellent program on the fundamentals of our Catholic faith. Give it a try. Also, the Knights Building the Domestic Church Program is another way for families to build up their faith. See elsewhere in this newsletter for more information pertaining to these items. There continues to be much to do and I solicit all your support as we endeavor make this year a great success!!! As I write this article, we are currently celebrating the Knights of Columbus Outreach Week, along with celebrating our founder, Father Michael J. McGivney. One way we can continue our outreach efforts is to seek additional members. Now is the time to support our Council by getting a fellow Catholic gentleman to fill out and sign a Form 100 and attend our next First Degree ceremony. The last thing I want to mention is that Council elections will be held in May. Please consider running for an officer position. You can contact Deputy Grand Knight, Tim Mullen, or any of the trustees (Bob Grzelak, Jay Gould, Clark Farrell) for questions or to be added on the slate. Finally, there is much more in this newsletter that will inform you of upcoming events and special needs. Please read the items carefully and help where possible. Please accept my best wishes for a joyous Easter. Fraternally yours, Bob Tetzloff, Grand Knight HONORS February Knight Family of the Month Council 13123 is pleased to nominate John and Cindy Willey as Knight Family of the Month for February, 2015. John and Cindy have contributed much to the Knights of Columbus, the church and community for over eighteen (18) years as part of the Order, most of those with Holy Family Council 13123. John has served our council with distinction as its Financial Secretary over the last ten (10) years, as well as providing support for the various events of the Council. John also supports his church by being an usher. He is also a member of the Lions, Institute of Management Accountants and Janet Wattles Board, having served as president for all the foregoing. Cindy is a charter member of the Holy Family Ladies Auxiliary and an active member of the Woman s Guild. She has acted as Sunshine Lady and assists with flower sales for the Ladies Auxiliary and has coordinated Meals on Wheels and assists with the monthly parish food collections, as needed, for the parish. Both John and Cindy have contributed many volunteer hours in support of these functions and are very worthy of this honor. February Knight of the Month Kevin McCarthy is a relatively new Knight, having joined the Knights of Columbus Council 13123 on May 13, 2013. Kevin has attained the First, Second and Third degrees of our Order and is currently serving Council 13123 as its Advocate, Family Director and Public Relations focal. Kevin brings an infectious enthusiasm to these roles and is always willing to lend a hand wherever the need is evident. Kevin works for the Diocese of Rockford as part of the weekly newspaper ( The Observer ) staff, serving in the advertising and marketing areas. In this role, Kevin was successful in promoting the Council s recent distribution of checks to four (4) local intellectual disability agencies that we traditional support with the proceeds from our last Tootsie Roll Drive, not only in The Observer but the local Rockford newspaper, the
Rockford Register Star. This publicity can only help in spreading good news about the Knights of Columbus. Council 13123 is happy to name Kevin McCarthy as its Knight of the Month for February, 2015. PRAY FOR POPE FRANCIS Please pray for the health and protection of our Pope Francis - just a simple Hail Mary (read below), especially now that ISIS has targeted the Vatican and plans to assassinate the Pope! Please read below and forward to friends. The goal is ten million Hail Marys for our Pope!! POPE FRANCIS MAKES A REQUEST: Weep not for what you have lost, fight for what you have. Weep not for what is dead, fight for what was born in you. Weep not for the one who abandoned you, fight for who is with you. Weep not for those who hate you, fight for those who want you. Weep not for your past, fight for your present struggle. Weep not for your suffering, fight for your happiness. With things that are happening to us, we begin to learn that nothing is impossible to solve, just move forward. PRAY THAT GOD PROTECTS HIM AND GIVES HIM THE GRACE TO MEET THIS DIFFICULT TASK. Send this message to all Catholic friends or even to those who like him. We pray for the Holy Father that our heavenly Mother intercedes for him and protects him in his ministry: Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. OUTREACH AND MEMBERSHIP Ask 1 2 B 1!!! Every event we conduct is an opportunity to attract new members. We are currently close to achieving our membership goal for the fraternal year. MAJOR DEGREE SUMMARY CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME On Sunday, March 22nd, Council 13123 hosted a Major Degree at Holy Family Church. It was an excellent opportunity for our members to advance in the Order without having to travel elsewhere. There were six (6) new Knights who were inducted into the First Degree and fourteen (14) additional Knights who joined these new inductees into the Second and Third Degrees. All twenty (20) Knights were invited to attend a light meal afterwards and to enjoy fellowship with the degree teams and observers. All in all, it was a great day. Please welcome Marek Bentkowski and Steven Bronzi as new members of Council 13123. These gentlemen received their First, Second and Third Degrees. Additionally, Ryan Beiler, Alex Campbell, Francisco Ramirez, Patrick Rosenberg, Dr. Edward Santos and John Sentovich received their Second and Third Degrees. Congratulations to all for progressing in the Knights of Columbus. I would also like to thank our Council 13123 First Degree team, the John Paul II Second/Third Degree team and all those who assisted in setting up, serving and cleaning up. Many thanks ladies for all you do to support the Knights. It is greatly appreciated. CHARITY OUR FIRST PRINCIPLE Through the generosity of many people, the Sisters of Fraternite Notre Dame are now able to replace the two (2) boilers that supply their heat. $200,000. The good sisters serve the most destitute of Chicago from their church and have received over $200,000 in donations from all over the Chicago area. I reported last month that the Illinois State KC donated $5,000 in this regard. With the amount of donations received, the boilers can now be replaced plus some additional needed repairs performed.
