Pastor's Letter January 2014 What s New With You? Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints, Psalm 149:1 (emphasis added). New is a wonderful word! As a kid with six older siblings, I remember the excitement of NEW shoes (you could always run faster!); a NEW school year; and only one time in my childhood I remember my parents buying a brand NEW car. I also remember the few times when we got NEW carpet in some part of the house. As a preacher, I remember when our church got its first NEW building; our first NEW piano for the platform; and our first NEW furnishings for our facilities. The greatest excitement about the word NEW, is when we see a NEW Christian, born into the family of God! As we enter a new year, it is awesome to think of all the possibilities and potential before us. The old saying is out with the old, in with the new. In Psalm 149, David encourages us to sing unto the Lord a new song. As I was thinking about that verse and others, I thought about how that might apply to our walk with the Lord. Do you think the Lord ever gets tired of the old things we offer Him? Have you been doing the same old, same old in your service to Him? Have you gotten complacent in your spiritual routine? Does the way we live our spiritual life need a new song? Does our way of doing things for the Lord need a new outlook? If we did a spiritual inventory, would we find the need for a new attitude? A new commitment? A new focus? A new effort to serve? What in your spiritual realm needs to go out with the old, and be replaced with something new? 2014 affords us the opportunity to do something new for the Lord, and to sing His praise in the congregation Pastor Kelly D. McInerney of the saints. I challenge you to pray about what new thing you could do to bring glory and honor to Him. If you only attend church on Sunday morning, then you might add Sunday nights as your new song to the Lord. If you never come Wednesdays, or if it has been a long time, you might make that your new song to the Lord. If you don t take advantage of our Sunday School and Bible classes now, then that might be a way for you to add something new. How about involvement in ministry? That could include singing, teaching, witnessing, giving, and so many other opportunities that could become your new song for the Lord s glory. As a church family, I never want what we offer to the Lord to be old, dull, or second-best. I want my life to be a continuous song of praise to the One who is Worthy, and I want to lead our congregation to do the same. What will be your new song for the Lord this year? What new thing will you bring to your walk with Christ? Don t be surprised if some time as your pastor I ask what s new with you? See you in church!

Sunday School News Everett Miller Bro. Everett Miller, who has led our Sunday School Department since 1997, announced that he is retiring to part-time employment beginning January 1st. In his new role, Bro. Everett will oversee our seniors ministry, nursing home outreach, and hospital care. He will also teach the men s Sunday School class for ages 26 and above. The Education and Sunday School departments, our largest ministry, will transfer to the leadership of Assistant Pastor Michael Ogg. Beginning on Sunday, January 5th all adult Sunday School classes will begin a new study called One Solitary Life: Christ in the Synoptic Gospels. This study looks at the Lord Jesus Christ through the synoptic gospels and provides a picture of Him that is truly three-dimensional. He has worked for BBC on a temporary basis since September, 2013, having been called to preach during the Spring of last year. His desire is to complete our Pastor s training program and to plant a church in an urban area, possibly Indianapolis or Dayton. Bryson is a life-long resident of Wilmington, and a graduate of Wilmington High School. He earned his bachelor s degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in management, from Wilmington College. He worked at the Clinton County Sheriff s Office, in the Corrections Division, for 11 years, attaining the rank of corporal. He and his wife Chandra were married in 2004, and have been at BBC Wilmington since 2005. They have four children Graysen, Zaviar, Savaya, and Jalise. The Thompson Family

AWANA News Many people do not know that the entire Awana ministry revolves around the study and memorization of God s Word. Awana s theme verse is found in 2 Timothy 2:15, and says, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The second half of the Awana year, beginning Wednesday, January 8 th, is exciting and packed full of events. During the month of January, we are going to be celebrating Bible Month with several events your kids will love. To kick things off we are having a contest between the boys and girls to see who can bring the most Bibles to club each week. The winning team will get bonus shares that they can spend at the next Awana Store! Other events included are: Bible Month Josh Doebler Rally, Bible drills, and dressing up like a Bible character. To wrap things up, we will host our 3 rd Annual Bible Fair. This has become a wonderful night where classes and individual students put together projects for display and prizes! Our motto has been It s just like a science fair, but all about the BIBLE! As always, we encourage your children and their friends to be involved in all that s taking place during the second half of the Awana year. Awana has something to offer all the kids in your family. From kids as young as 2 years old to those in 5 th - 6 th grade, we are here to assist you in equipping your children for a life lived for Jesus. We have caring leaders who desire, just as you do, to see children learn and grow in the Lord. I encourage you in 2014 to give Awana a try and see what it will do for your family. Safety Team Ministry News Bible Baptist Church now has an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on site. It is located near the junction of Phase 2 and Phase 3. The use of an AED in the first minutes following cardiac arrest can boost the survival rate to as much as 90%. Training has already taken place for our safety team members and staff. Newsletter Update Beginning in February our monthly newsletter will be sent by email to everyone on the Pastor s page and available on our website at www.bbcwilmington.org/resources/newsletter. Printed copies will be available at the Welcome Center for those without internet access. If you would like to have your email address added to the Pastor s Page email list, please contact the church office at 937-383-1122. Visitation/Bible Project Update We are announcing a change in our visitation ministry for 2014. Church-wide visitation will be held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays only, on our Great Commission Nights, for the winter months. Dinner will begin at 6:00 PM. Reservations for dinner need to be made by the Sunday prior to the Great Commission Night. In the Spring, we plan to return to an every Monday night format for visitation ministry. Josh Dixon As part of the National Bible Publishing Month, we will be assembling Bible portions each Monday night at 6:30 PM in January and February. Join us in the gym, as we strive to reach our goal of 15,000 John & Romans Bible portions for this national effort. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Teen Ministry Update On January 19th the teen and college classes will meet in the gymnasium at 6:00 pm for service and a pizza fellowship. We will then take buses to Mad River Mountain Ski Resort in Bellefontaine, where the teenagers can choose from skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, staying in the lodge and playing board games, or just hang out by the fireplace. There is a food court at the resort that is open to participants, so please be prepared with money to purchase something while we are there. We are planning on being back at the church on Monday, January 20 at 6:00 am for parent pick-up. If you are Skiing or Snowboarding the costs are: Lift Ticket $25, Skis or Snowboard Rental $24. If you are Tubing the cost is: $20. This is a great opportunity to invite teens who do not regularly attend church. Pre-registration begins January 5th. Ben Miller Just a reminder that the after school Bible Studies, Teens for Christ, will continue to meet weekly throughout the winter months. Below is a listing of each school with the meeting date and time. Please pray that many teens will be encouraged to grow in their faith and others will come to know Christ through this ministry.
