The Epiphany of The Lord January 6, 2019 DR. ALLEN HUNT

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Gospel Reflection As we continue our celebration of the Christmas season, we observe today the great Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. The word epiphany means manifestation. Throughout the Christmas readings we have seen that the newborn King is eager to reveal Himself to all those willing to accept His presence in their lives. From poor and humble shepherds to the international group of magi featured in today s Gospel passage, Jesus makes it clear that He offers Himself as a gift to everyone. We also see throughout the scriptures that God uses what is familiar to us to draw us to Himself. In the case of the magi, or astrologers, He uses a star. Our Lord continues to speak to each one of us today. But we must be alert to hear and see Him in our daily lives. How can we become better attuned to the ways God is speaking to us? We must strengthen our spiritual senses by spending time with the Lord in prayer every single day. In the same way that we set professional goals or exercise goals, we can set spiritual goals to ensure that we are taking the time to listen intentionally to God daily. When we establish a regular, intentional time for prayer, we will find that the Lord continues to speak to us throughout the day. We will more easily recognize the stars He places before us to draw us into closer relationship with Him. We will begin to see that He is present in our lives at every moment. Summarization from Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc. 2018 7 th Grade Service Project Catholic Charities Some of our 7th graders enthusiastically participated in an outreach project with Catholic Charities and adopted a family of 9 for Christmas. With a little help from Youth Ministry Coordinator Bill Ash, the students shopped for gifts, wrapped, and delivered them to a very grateful family. Many thanks to the students, their adult chaperones, and to Bill Ash for coordinating this project. VBS 2019 date is set: June 24-28 Our first planning meeting will be Wednesday January 30 7:00 PM in the Professional Team Room (across from school office). Lots of creative ideas needed! Come by and help us start the planning. No experience necessary! Contact Beth Freeman with questions, bethf@ourlourdes.org. The Great TP Challenge Fr. Scott once again challenged our school students to donate toilet paper and help wipe out some of the need at the Sister Visitor Center. Father issued the challenge at the school mass for the Immaculate Conception, giving students a week to top the previous year s results. The need is great since TP is one of the items that cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. All the TP has been delivered to the Sister Visitor Center and they are so very grateful for the donation. Thanks to all! Louisville, KY Stewardship Renewal It is never too late to return your Stewardship Intention Card! Stewardship packets will not be mailed this year renewal is online. Visit our homepage www.ourlourdes.org; hover over the Registrations tab to find the online intention card. If you prefer, a paper intention form is available in the Gathering Space. Place completed cards in the collection basket, or drop off or mail to the Parish Office. Stewardship Reflection. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ~Matthew 2:11 The wise men spent their lives seeking God and when they finally found Him they opened their coffers in generosity. Stewardship is much easier when we seek God first in our lives. Based on reflections prepared by Rev. Thomas Gentile and the Office of Mission Advancement

The Epiphany of The Lord January 6, 2019 Parking Lot Reminders Friendly reminders! Please do not park in the circle on the south side of our campus, near the covered walkway. This area is for drop offs and emergency vehicles; note that the curbs have been painted yellow. There are several handicap-designated parking spots nearby. Also please be aware that we have a ramp on the north side of the church. Please DO NOT BLOCK this ramp when parking on that side. We recently had a medical emergency during Sunday mass and EMS had difficulty navigating around a car blocking the ramp. We appreciate your cooperation! Please do not leave anything of any value visible in your car when parking on our campus. Always be aware of your surroundings, and always lock your doors! Adult Volleyball Coed league begins soon! If there is an emergency (such as a death), please call 896.0241 and follow the prompts to reach the Pastoral Care office. Family Ministries Marriage moments What does it mean to be a copartner or members of the same body? (Ephesians 3:6) Applied to marriage, copartner means equal in dignity and decision making. Being a member of the same body does not mean some mythical new creature with two heads, but rather that we are in this life together. What happens to one of us, impacts the other. Parenting pointers Today is the Feast of the Epiphany, when Christians celebrate the 3 kings, who had been following a star and found the baby, Jesus. Celebrate this with your children by sharing a King Cake (https:// www.eater.com/2017/1/11/14168802/ king-cake-history) or simply walk outside and marvel at the stars. Seek to understand the mystery of the universe. Susan Vogt, www.susanvogt.net Catholic Sports Hall of Fame Congratulations to Lourdes Alumna Carmen Mims Noel ( 01) on her induction into the Catholic Sports Hall of Fame. Carmen is a ten-time state champion in cross country and track and field, and she is one of the most decorated distance runners in state history. Congratulations Carmen!
