Dear Parishioners, PASTORAL LEADER S NOTES On this feast of PENTECOST we celebrate the day the Holy Spirit entered the life of every believer. Today we are reminded of the coming of the Holy Spirit into our lives as well. As we reflect on what that means for us as Catholic Christians take a minute to read this poem by William Blake, an English poet and painter from the 18th century: Unless the eye catch fire, God will not be seen. Unless the ear catch fire, God will not be heard. Unless the tongue catch fire, God will not be named. Unless the heart catch fire, God will not be loved. Unless the mind catch fire God will not be known. - William Blake As our parish prepares for the Alpha Experience that will take place from September through December, 2018 it is important to remember that the goal of this experience is not to add another program to our parish but to shift our focus from just attending another program to growing in becoming a missionary disciple. Alpha is one way that people can discover Jesus so that they can enter more fully into the journey of following, worshipping and sharing Jesus. Alpha is an easy and effective way to review the basics of our Catholic faith and renew our relationship with Jesus. It will also introduce us to the discipleship process and teach us what it means to be a missionary disciple in our world today. Each week the 90 minute session will begin with a meal. Then we will watch the 28 minute Alpha video for the week and spend a half hour in discussion. Google Alpha Film Series and you ll find some interesting information about the videos we ll be watching in the fall. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Fr. Luke Ferris is recovering well from his surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and, if you have time, I know he would appreciate a get well card from you. Here s his address: Fr. Luke Ferris c/o Nativity Parish 2270 S. Oneida St. Green Bay, WI 54304 How will you catch fire and share the gift of the Holy Spirit in your life today? (One way to catch fire and learn how to become missionary disciples is to sign up for the alpha experience that begins the week of Sept. 12 in both of our parishes.) Kathy O Brien is the Pastoral Associate at our Sister Parish in Erwin, TN. She had a minor heart attack this past week and will be having surgery in the days ahead. Please keep Kathy in your prayers. Here is Kathy s address if you would like to send her a get well card: Kathy O Brien PO Box 292 Unicoi, TN 37692 Sr. Pam

STEWARDSHIP NEWS (Winn. & Omro) Stewardship is a way of life... Today s Gospel John 20:19-23 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, Peace be with you. When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit... REFLECT: When the disciples saw Jesus, do you think they may have expected Jesus to be upset with them for hiding in fear behind locked doors? Jesus does not condemn them. He 1) calms their fears, 2) reveals himself, 3) gives them peace, and 4) sends them forth equipped with the Holy Spirit to carry out his mission. How can we follow these steps and allow the Holy Spirit to work through us to carry out God s mission of love and mercy? GRATITUDE: Let us REJOICE and give THANKS for the mercy and love of God! Gratitude calms fear. PRAY: When we spend time in prayer, Jesus reveals himself to us through the Holy Spirit, who showers us with God s peace, joy, forgiveness and mercy. The Holy Spirit then sends us to SERVE and SHARE what we have received with others. HOW WILL YOU LIVE A LIFE OF STEWARDSHIP THIS WEEK? Adult Faith Formation Thank you! We are so thankful to everyone who participated in and have supported our Adult Faith Formation presentations and DVD series. We hope you enjoyed this years speakers. A special Thank You to all of our bakers who helped fuel every event! Still looking to help with Service? Hospitality Volunteer Opportunity Homebound Ministry is looking for one to two volunteers to deliver a home-cooked meal to parishioners at their home after a stay in the hospital.
