OCTOBER 10/11, 2015 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 2 THE THEME What do we want more than anything else? In today s first reading, we hear the ancient teaching that wisdom is worth everything. Those of us who strive for wisdom know how hard it is to achieve. In the Gospel, Jesus is asked what one must do to enter the kingdom of God. The answer is no less daunting. One must become like a child, basically renouncing everything. High prices for what matters most! THE READINGS WISDOM 7:7-12: Wisdom is more valuable than anything. HEBREWS 4:12-13: The word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. MARK 10:17-30: Requirements for entering the kingdom of God. -SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17th, 2015 5:00 PM Mass Priest Fr. Manuel Lector S. Alter E.M. s J. Dagney, C. Gallagher, J. OCTOBER 10/11, 2015 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 3 From s Desk 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parish Family: This Sunday we celebrate the Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the first reading we are told of the prayer of Solomon and its results. What could I do that would be better than to follow Solomon s example of asking God for wisdom? In the second reading, we are reminded that God s word to us demands a response. It will not simply go away and bother someone else. How have I responded or failed to respond to God s call to me? In the Gospel, we are presented with the case of a rich young man of excellent character who comes to Jesus wanting to live a better life. But when Christ told him that if he wished to become a disciple of his, he would have to give up his wealth, he went away sad. The readings lead us to a crisis-a judgment and a decision in our lives. There is clearly a constant tussle between the values of the world and those of the Kingdom of God. Where am I in this? This conflict of values could be within the family, at school, the work place or in the parish. It is not a question of doing the minimum to keep out of sin. God is challenging us to love, to undertake some positive action of sharing, caring, forgiving and loving. Jesus, the true Wisdom of God, has shown us the way with his life and death. The Lord is inviting us to stand on his side in our pursuit of the fullness of life, with sacrifice and generosity. God Bless You Always, STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection In today s Gospel, Jesus asks the rich young man to give away all that he has in order to have treasure in heaven. But he is unable to free himself from his possessions, and so he goes sadly away. Does what I own keep me from following Jesus? Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who keep attachments, of any sort, from distracting them from their spiritual work.
