Omitting a single visit to the Temple at twelve years of age He was not heard of again until He was thirty years of age, at thirty-three He died. During the brief span of t h r e e years in an obscure land and without any prestiage.he so changed human thought among all Nations t h a t nearly the whole world has set aside a day, they call it Christmas, and so it is appointed unto Him a birthday. Therefore, once each year in song and story the race of men recite the astonishing fact of His virgin birth and matchless life. Each succeeding generation of the world's people seek to outdo their predecessors in adoration and acclaim of t h e world's great King. Nineteen hundred and perhaps forty times Christmas has rolled around. I t comes to remind us t h a t our wisdom and our age are faulty, t h a t the g r e a t Teacher, born in a m a n g e r and dead at thirty-three, t h a t He alone t a u g h t of a way and a life f o r all m a n kind, t h a t Christ's teaching is the one persistent idea that some day must save the race. Christmas reminds us that now abideth faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest is love. Love then is stronger than hate, war, sin. Love abides and will outlive all its enemies. The prehistoric animals, tremendous in size and fierce beyond description, are gone. Their relics dangle in museums, but the DECEMBER 20, 1940 N o. 51 sheep and cow abide. Hoping. despairing, weeping, laughing. the people of the earth move on t o w a r d the Golden Age. Christmas means cheer. T h a t is in evidence in n e a r l y every window, every fireside, every city, every land. Cheer means good feeling, friendship, good-will toward all men. Christmas abides and is popular because the ultim a t e purpose of life is joy. Life a t its summit is not intended to be bleak and cold but sun-lit, hopeful, looking on t o w a r d reward, and golden sunset. Christmas reminds us that peace is the b e t t e r way. The hosts of Alexander conquered the world, so did Rome, and others, and w h a t a bitter disappointment, what a miserable contribution to struggling humanity. But Christmas u n f u r l s its banners of peace, and warns the race of men t h a t peace is life and strife is death. Christmas reminds us that caste spirit r e t a r d s our onward march. W e a r e not so much English, Italians, Germans, Russians, and Chinese, but w e are human beings, God's creatures, that every mother's son of all Nations once nestled on a mother's breast, looked up into her eyes and cooed at her smile and embrace, that all alike in a few brief days must lie silent in t h e tomb. F o r the sake of human reason then let Christmas come into our hearts, let us be brothers. Christmas reminds us of home, its comforts, sympathies, shelter, a n d of the E t e r n a l H o m e that the Author of Christmas taught about.

The q-.-.ict country sky was opened up and 1 a host of angelic beings appeared long ago to shepherds keeping watch over their flocks. The message was given to shepherds, not great men, or wealthy men, or scholars. God so often reveals himself to humble men. The shepherds were humble and reverent, living a simple life with time to sit and meditate on the eternal. They had been waiting for the coming Christ as prophet, pries' and king, as recorded in their writings and they immediately believed the message of the angel even though they did not understand the full significance of it. They did not know that the Savior would deliver men from sin and sorrow. We want you to know that the reverent customs of the past aided by a modern professional knowledge and improved facilities make ours a service of idealism. The McGowan Funeral Home

It is a sad Christmas for so many of the people of earth this year. If hostilities cease for the day it will be only a gesture. We wonder just how peace on earth will ever be accomplished. Perhaps we have overlooked the real solution, for the angels sang "Peace among men IN WHOM HE IS WELL PLEASED." Exercise of good 1 will, disarmament. etc., will never bring peace. When men give the glory to God and live in a manner pleasing to him peace will follow. But "There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." It is sin that keeps this world disturbed.
