Transcription:

CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH 1 FIRST SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY BAPTISM OF OUR LORD January 13, 2019 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER (prepared by Jim Gann) Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. Isaiah 43: 1b ESV Do you have the boldness to walk right up to God and have a heart-to-heart conversation with Him? Did you know that is just what He wants us to do? When we pray to God, we can do so unashamedly and boldly because we are, after all, members of His household. We aren t His because of something we did or do. We are His because He has redeemed us, called us by name, and told us so. Because of this, we have the right, through Jesus atonement sacrifice, to come into God s presence. So, be bold and talk to Him, whenever you want, not just in church or before you go to bed. PRELUDE ANNOUNCEMENTS (p. 14-15) CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please stand and face the Cross)

OPENING VERSICLES (Psalm 29) Pastor: Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. People: Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. Pastor: The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over many waters. People: The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. Pastor: The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. People: He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. Pastor: The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire. People: The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. Pastor: The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, Glory! People: The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. All: May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace! 2 OPENING HYMN #405 To Jordan s River Came Our Lord + DIVINE SERVICE SETTING FIVE + INVOCATION, CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION Pastor: In the name of the Father and the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Pastor: Our help is in the name of the Lord. People: who made heaven and earth. Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, People: and You forgave the iniquity of my sin, (A moment of silence for reflection on God s Word and for selfexamination) Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. People: Dear loving and gracious God, we have sinned against you by our own fault, by our own grievous fault. We have failed to honor you with our lips and our hearts have been far from you. Please forgive us and draw us near so that we may live lives that praise Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. (The Gospel is read) Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, O Christ. 6 NICENE CREED All: We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, we acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and we look for the resurrection of the dead and the life + of the world to come. Amen.
