Dear Parishioners, I am sure that you all had a wonderful Christmas celebration. May the Joy, Peace and Serenity that Jesus brought to the world continue to be with us throughout the New Year 2019! I would like to thank all those who helped with the Church decorations for Christmas. Thank you! The Church looks beautiful and festive! The Gospel story is about the twelve-year-old Jesus getting lost in Jerusalem. It shows that misunderstandings can occur even in the best of families. It is not right to say that He got lost in the temple. In fact, He found His home there. It was at the temple He began to find himself and to discover His true identity. Like Jesus it is at the house of God that we can discover our identity. In God s house we discover who we are. In God s house we discover that we are God s precious sons and daughters. I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. May this New Year be a Year of blessing, good health, prosperity and Happiness! Yours Sincerely, Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God-The Solemnity of Mary is on Tuesday, January 1st, and is a Holy Day of Obligation. The Holy Day Masses will be at 8:00am, 12:00pm, and 5:30pm. We speak of the family of nations, of our church and parish families. The greatest compliment we can pay a friend or gracious host is to say that we feel at home with them, we feel part of the family.

The Fairfax and San Anselmo chapters of the St. Vincent s de Paul Society attempt to answer this call by helping our neighboring senior citizens, families, children who are in need and living on the economic margins of our community. Mary is 70 plus year old single woman who has been helped by SVdP. She will lose her apartment on Jan.1 st. If we cannot find housing she will become homeless. Mary is quiet and responsible and can afford a modest monthly rent for a room, an in-law apartment or whatever housing accommodations can be offered to her. We are asking parishioners in the Ross Valley area if they have or know of any housing resources that might be available for Mary. Please call Jack Hayes at 415-454-6420. MOC in the News, Again -Renting in Marin is challenging. There is a lack of housing availability and, before the last year or so, no renter protections. The Marin Organizing Committee (MOC), 21 institutions, including St. Anselm, which work together around issues that affect the whole community, has been advocating for renter protections to be implemented throughout the County. We focused on three ordinances: Source of Income (which bans rental ads from saying No Section 8 or Veteran s Vouchers) gives renters a chance to be judged on their own merits; Mandatory Mediation (requires owners to meet with renters when the rent is raised over 5%) and Just Cause Eviction (if a landlord has more than 3 units they must have a reason to evict someone). Last week the Board of Supervisors passed the third ordinance Justice Cause Eviction capping a multi-year effort of research and advocacy. San Anselmo, Fairfax and San Rafael have passed at least one of the ordinances, and MOC will be advocating before all county cities and towns to see if they will do the same. MOC stood up for a group of renters who received 65% rent increases, just as it did earlier this year for renters facing a 40% increase. MOC did this by bringing the issue before the public (meetings, press conference, and San Rafael City Council meeting). MOC also brought together renters and city and county officials. The officials agreed to work with the owners on their behalf. The reality is that most of renters will eventually have to move, but it wasn't the week before school started (67 affected students) or during Christmas. If you would like to learn more about MOC, contact Deacon Bernie O Halloran (berniohall@yahoo.com,415-454-3496) or Pat Langley, 117plangley@gmail.com.

Children s Christmas Pageant On Sunday, December 16 th at the 10am Mass our Religious Education and First Communion Programs reenacted our Lord s Nativity, reminding us that Christmas is a time to remember the greatness of God s love. Thank you to all the children who gave their time and talents to make this reenactment possible. Youth Christmas Pageant Our Confirmation class, Youth Ministry, along with some young helpers, delighted parishioners at the 5pm Mass with a wonderful reenactment of our Lord s Nativity. The highlight was definitely when the Magnificat was sung by Emma McNeill and Nathan O Halloran. Thank you to all who made this possible.
