Make It Fun Special Needs, September 2014, Week 2 Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your students arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. 1. Put it Together Put it Together is an activity that uses fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem solving skills through puzzle play. What You Need: Burning Bush from the Activity Pages During the activity: Help the children as needed put the puzzle together and talk about what the puzzle is a picture of. At the end of the activity: The puzzles we put together today had a picture of a fire in a bush and that is what our Bible story is about! God used a fire in a bush to talk to Moses! Make It True After children have participated in Make It Fun, tell the Bible story and then encourage the kids to have fun singing with you. When sharing the Bible story, guide kids to gather around you on the floor. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That s OK. They re still listening and learning! Worship Bible Story What You Need: A Bible LEADER: (Lay Bible down in front of you.) Hi, guys! I have an awesome Bible story to tell you. The Bible says there was a man named Moses who loooooved God. He took good care of something. Here s a clue of what he took care of. Listen. Baaaaaa! Sheep! Everybody say, Baaaa! Oh, those are great sheep noises. Great job! 2
Special Needs, September 2014, Week 2 One day, Moses led his sheep out into a big area called the desert. (Very dramatic) Do you know what he saw out there? He saw a big bush. But it wasn t just ANY bush. This bush was (yell) ON FIRE! (Wave arms all around like fire.) Here is the most amazing thing about the whole story. The bush didn t burn up! It just kept on burning. It didn t burn away and go out! And then something even MORE amazing happened. (Lean toward kids and talk slowly and with awe.) Moses heard something IN the bush! It said (deep voice), Moses! Moses! I am God. I have seen my people hurting in Egypt. So I am coming to save them. WOW! Can you imagine that? God was talking right to Moses through a bush! Do you think Moses did what God asked? (Pause.) Yes! Moses went to Egypt, and God was with him the WHOLE way. God had spoken to Moses, and God has the power to speak to you and me. God has all the power! [Bottom Line] God s got it! [Bottom Line] Who s got it? God s got it! Prayer Dear God, thank You for this true story. Help us to always remember that God s ALWAYS got it! We love You, God! Amen. Make It Stick Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. 1. Fire Shaker Fire Shaker is an activity that lets children use their fine motor skills to make a pompom while reciting this month s Memory Verse. What You Need: Fire from the Activity Page, sentence strips, large craft sticks, masking tape, a marker, and red, orange, and yellow tissue paper or crepe paper streamers 3
During the activity: Help the children attach strips of the Special tissue/crepe Needs, September paper 2014, onto Week the 2 craft stick with tape followed by the Memory Verse sticker. When the shakers have been assembled, guide the children to wave their fire as you recite the Memory Verse together. At the end of the activity: Wherever you go, God will always be there with you. Shake your fire again. (Pause.) God was with Moses, too, and showed up in a burning bush in our Bible story today. God has got the power to be everywhere! [Bottom Line] God s got it! Who s got it? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] God s got it! 2. Points of Fire Points of Fire is an activity that lets the children get crafty while making artwork that helps them remember the Bible story they learned today. What You Need: Bush from the Activity Pages found on the Website, white paper, Q- tips, red and yellow tempera paint, paper plates, a marker, and wet wipes Before the activity: Give a copy of Bush from the Activity Pages to each child. Then squirt paints on the paper plates. During the activity: Talk about how God was with Moses all the time and how God spoke to Moses through a burning bush while the children paint their bush with the Q- tips. It s OK if kids smear or rub the paint around instead of dotting it. At the end of the activity: Set papers aside to dry and send home. Before the activity: In our Bible story today we learned about a man named Moses. Moses loved God very much and God was with him all the time. When God told Moses to go talk to the mean king, He did something amazing. God talked to Moses in a burning bush! The bush was on fire but never burned up! During the activity: You get to make a burning bush today by painting with these Q- tips. Dot the red and yellow all over the bush. Wow! Look at your pictures! These are great! All of the bushes look like they are on fire! At the end of the activity: Moses knew that God s got it, so he did what God told him to do. Who s got it? [Bottom Line] God s got it! 4
