Welcome to St Giles We are a growing community of people of all backgrounds and all ages, and we are convinced that God wants to do great things here in West Bridgford, in Nottingham, and beyond. If you would like more information about who we are, what we do and what s going on - then please speak to whoever is leading today s service, and help yourself to the postcards in the information carousels. At the rear of church is The Haven, a glazed (but not soundproofed!) room where parents can take unsettled babies or children who are too young to join the children s groups. The church hall can be found through the rear doors of the church. In the hall you will find toilets and baby changing facilities. At St Giles we are committed to safeguarding as an integral part of the life and ministry of the Church. We take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously, and have policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment. These can be viewed on our website. Our Safeguarding Coordinator is Dizzy Prentice and can be contacted on 07951 538670 or dizzy.prentice@btinternet.com. If you or someone you know at St Giles would appreciate some pastoral support please do talk to Daphne Carter in confidence. Seniors Christmas Lunch This year the Seniors Christmas Lunch will be held in the church hall this Friday 7 th December, arrive from 12.15pm for a 12.30pm start. Come along and enjoy a traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings, plus wine and entertainment. Tickets cost just 10 and can be purchased in church from members of the Seniors Committee during coffee on Sundays or Wednesdays. Nativity Dress Rehearsal The dress rehearsal for the Nativity will take place in church on Sunday 23 rd December, drop off 10.15-10.30am, pick up 12noon. Parents are welcome to stay but school age children can be dropped off once they have been signed in. Sunbeamers are very welcome to join us but parents must stay with them. If you have a sheep or shepherd or angel costume for your Sunbeams child that would be great. If not, we can see what fits them from our collection at the dress rehearsal. Volunteers to help with costume organisation at the practice and on the day are gratefully received - just let Ellen know if you can help! On Christmas Eve children will need to be brought into the church hall for 3pm to get ready. Evensong this evening Please join us for Evensong this evening to mark the beginning of Advent. This joyfully solemn service, expressed in the timeless language of the Book of Common Prayer, makes a prayerful start to this penitential season. You will be made very welcome at the service (6pm) or come for tea and cakes from 5.30pm. First Priority Prayer First Priority Prayer will take place in the George Chapel this evening Sunday 2 nd December, at 8pm. It is an hour long prayer meeting, which incorporates informal worship and focuses on intercession. Everyone is very welcome!

Messy Christmas On Monday 3 rd December from 3.45pm, Messy Church will be celebrating Christmas. Come with your children (preschool through to 11) to enjoy lots of festive fun in church and invite your friends with families along too. Messy Church is a way of being church for families involving lots of fun! There will be some great festive activities to take part in, as well as the Christmas story and a delicious tea for all the children. Readers for Carols By Candlelight Would you like to read one of the lessons at this year s Carols by Candlelight service at 7.00pm on Sunday 16 th December? The readings tell of the wonder of God s gift of His Son to the world, and it is great if we can get a mix of people from across all sections of our church family to read them. Please let Claire know if you are interested (contact details on back of the bulletin). Decorating the Church for Christmas On Saturday 15 th December from 9.30am we will be decorating the church for Christmas. No great flower arranging expertise is required so please do pop along for a short while to help make the church look festive this Christmas. Donations of greenery and foliage to use would be very gratefully received. If you have greenery or would like to make a donation to help cover the cost of the our Christmas flowers please contact Helen Jarvis on 0115 981 9947. Safe Space our group for mutual support and encouragement for people living with anxiety and depression The next Safe Space meeting is on Wednesday 5 th December at 7.45pm in church. We meet in a relaxed atmosphere with refreshments where you can share as little or as much of your experiences as you wish in a safe environment. It s a good place to share successes and helpful tips as well as issues and problems but it s also OK if you prefer to listen rather than speak. Supporters and new members are always welcome. If you would like further information, please contact Daphne Carter (9743749) or Maureen Morrell (9233151). New Baby! Our love and congratulations go to Kata and Atilla, on the safe arrival of Nora Lilla on Friday 23 rd November, a little sister for Csenga. Please remember them all in your prayers and speak to Ellen if you could offer a meal for the family. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

St Giles Mission Partners Thank you to everyone who supported the Christian Aid Cake Break on Friday. Watch this space to see how much we raised. Gifts that keep giving beyond Christmas Take a look online at https://charity-gifts.christianaid.org.uk/ to find the perfect gift for family, friends, teachers and loved ones which could transform the lives of people living in poverty around the world. There is a box for donations at the back of church or you can take them to the Friary at their depot at Unit 6C Ludlow Hill Road, NG2 6HF (Tue & Thu 10am 3pm). Thank you. Many events and services happen during the Christmas season. Last year CUs held more than 100 carol services, reaching at least 30,000 students with the gospel! Pray that international students are invited to these events, and that we would see much fruit. Why not find out about your local events and invite international students?

Here s how you can celebrate Christmas with St Giles this year.. A Good Advent If you d like to follow daily meditations through the season of Advent, consider A Good Advent, by Sarah Mullally, the Bishop of London, and Dr Jane Williams. Each day there's a Bible reading, an image, a reflection, a discussion point, a prayer and a suggestion for action. It comes as a short booklet (https://spckpublishing.co.uk/a_good_advent) or as an App (Android & Apple). Sunday 9th December - Last Ever Traidcraft Stall? Sadly, due to falling sales and complex distribution problems, Traidcraft are scaling down their operations. The end of Traidcraft would be devastating for whole communities who depend on the Traidcraft premium for employment, health and education. There is some hope that the organisation may continue into the future, with a more streamlined range of products. As a result, our stall will close for a few months, with a hoped for re-launch next April. Please show your support by buying Traidcraft's delicious products from the stall next Sunday. Stock up with your favourite stem ginger cookies, Guatemalan coffee and delicious raisins from Chile. Thank you for your support. Claire Voce
