Dear Families, August 2017 Once again, we are pleased to offer our Camp Shofar program for the High Holy Days. Children up to fifth grade are encouraged to sign up for camp. Sixth and seventh graders have the opportunity to do a mitzvah and help out with the younger grades. Community Service Hours are available. Camp Shofar will include prayer services for all ages, as well as a balance of educational and social components. Campers will be assigned to age-appropriate groups (siblings who are in different age groups will not be together) led by counselors, junior counselors, and teachers. Younger groups will also have sixth and seventh grade volunteers to help out. Campers aged 3 years and younger will be under the supervision of adults. All paid and volunteer staff will participate in mandatory safety training. There are two goals for Camp Shofar. Our first is for children to develop a spiritual connection to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur; our second is to give parents the peace of mind that their children are enjoying a meaningful High Holy Day experience in a safe, nurturing environment. For those who are new to the program, please note that we follow the rules of what is permissible to do on a holiday. Our teachers and counselors work very hard to prepare learning activities that meet these guidelines and yet are fun and imaginative. Registration postmarked on or before August 25, 2017, will qualify for a discounted registration fee. Fees increase after August 25, 2017. Children MUST be signed up and camp fees must be paid for by Friday, September 15, 2017, to ensure that craft projects and supplies, name tags, and attendance sheets are labeled with their names as we are unable to do so during camp. REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER SEPTEMBER 15. If you d like to use drop-in care, please complete the registration and emergency forms and bring them with you. CANCELLATION POLICY: In order to receive a refund for camp, you must cancel your reservation by Monday, September 15, 2017 by 12 noon. Please call Beth Jacob at 650-366-8481 and leave a message. No refunds will be given for no-shows. YOUR CHILD WILL NEED TO BRING A DAIRY LUNCH AND A NON-PERISHABLE SNACK; SNACK WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. We suggest making lunches the night before camp and, for Yom Kippur, before you begin your fast. The classrooms at Beth Jacob are a NO-NUT zone. Please do not send peanut butter, other nut butters, or nuts in lunches and snacks. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Camp will be in session for Rosh Hashanah, September 21 and September 22, from 9:00 am until the end of services (approximately 1:30 pm). Camp will be in session for Kol Nidre, September 29, from 6:30 pm until the end of services, and for Yom Kippur, September 30, from 9:00 am until the end of morning services (approximately 1:45 pm).
