This year they were helped by Janet, Alan and Bella Dohmen and Rob and Gretchen Sutherland. The Creche is probably the most valuable set of antiques owned by St. Mary s, possibly 19th century Bohemian in origin, brought to the United States by an early pastor of the parish. The Creche is very rare because the Nativity figures including a large camel, many sheep, a donkey, shepherds and three Wise Men are all hand-painted plaster of Paris, easily broken over the years even with the tender care of devoted parishioners. Only the figurine of the Infant Jesus was recently purchased as a replacement of the original. In the many processions of children bringing up to the stable the little baby Jesus, some accidents occurred which could not be repaired.
