Answer me, I pray! All: Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. One: You provided relief when I was troubled. All: You put gladness in my heart. One: Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord. All: For we put our trust in you. One: I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; All: For you alone make my life safe. One: Let us worship God together! *Opening Hymn No. 485 To God Be The Glory Call to Confession (1 John 1:8) One: We are children of God. God is a loving, caring parent who forgives us and understands. Let us join together in confession. Prayer of Confession All: Loving God, we come to you, distracted and unfocused; too full of ourselves and our own desires. Help us this morning to clear our minds of the worries and plans. Help us to let go of unkindness and any grudges we hold. Help us to look beyond our lives and to center ourselves in your goodness and grace. Like a loving and caring parent, O Lord, guide us to make choices that honor you. Remind us that we are your children, who cry, Abba, Father, and that we depend on you, completely. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. 2
Declaration of Forgiveness One: As children of God, led by the Spirit, we claim the amazing promise of the gospel. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! The Peace One: May the peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. Congregational Response: Hymn 2157 Come and Fill Our Hearts 3
The Word Prayer for Illumination One: God our helper, by your Holy Spirit, open our minds that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may be led into your truth and taught your will, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Old Testament Reading: Psalm 4 New Testament Reading: Luke 24:36-48 Anthem Oh, What a Wonderful Name Althouse Sermon Too Good to be True Rev. Susan Rosenbaum *Hymn No. 399 We Walk By Faith and Not By Sight *Affirmation of Faith (from A Brief Statement of Faith, Presbyterian (USA)) We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer Congregational Response: Hymn 2016 Glorify Thy Name 4
Responding with Thanks Call for Offering One: We give Thee but Thine own, whatever the gift may be. All that we have is Thine alone, a trust, O Lord, from Thee. Let us give generously from our blessings. Offertory Lamb of God Bettcher *Doxology 592 Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow *Prayer of Dedication All: Generous and gracious God, we are your children, and we share these tithes and offerings with you, that they might make a difference in our extended family of faith around this world.
