THE CHURCH GATHERS The candle is lit as a symbol of our prayers for peace. Words of Welcome and Announcements Prelude Fanfare *Please, stand if you are able. *Call to Worship Rev. Christa Fuller Burns Arthur Bliss (1891-1975) One: Who is this who enters the doors of our temple, who overturns the tables, strews silver and gold on the floor, frees the sacrificial doves from gilded cages? Listen, as they rise, the beating of their wings is a song of loud hosanna. All: It is Jesus of Galilee, who comes to cleanse the great temple, to restore its subverted chambers to a house of hallowed prayer. One: Then let us open the doors of our hearts even wider, so he can cast out the thieves who would take what is sacred and tender and turn it hard as gold in a fist. All: May the temple within us be a refuge where doves of peace roost in the rafters. One: May it be a garden that bears the fruits of a generous spirit. All: For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. *Hymn 403 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty Prayer of Confession UNSER HERRSCHER Prince of all Peace, God of all Grace, we open our hearts to you, knowing that we are the temple in which you make your home. Cast out what needs to be cast out our rules and our regulations that have nothing to do with love. Cast out what needs to be cast out and fill us with all we need to be filled. As disciples of Christ, as dancers in the Holy Spirit, as children of our creator, we pray. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Silence is observed. One: Through Christ, the dividing walls have been broken down. All: We have been given the hope that we can live in new ways. One: Such a gift surely sets us free! All: We are free! And we will rise as God s freely chosen ones, shining in our world with love! 2

*Sung Response 841 God Is My Strong Salvation WEDLOCK *The Peace of Christ One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. All: And also with you. TO PROCLAIM AND EXPERIENCE GOD S WORD Moment with Faith Kids Prayer for Illumination Rev. Burns One: God has not stopped calling; God has not stopped speaking. Let us pray for understanding of God s word in our day. All: God of prophets, both ancient and modern, open our spirits to your voice; open our hearts to your call; give us the will and the courage to go forward in faith. Amen. Lesson John 2:13-25 One: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Amen. Sermon It s the Annual Meeting What Could Go Wrong? Rev. Burns *Hymn 301 Let Us Build a House Prayers of the People & The Lord's Prayer TWO OAKS Rev. Burns Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from 3
