It was suggested to me that we should have a page in the Pella One where we can share recipes! Please feel free to submit recipes! If you have a title for this page, feel free to e-mail me! Since no one submitted a recipe for this month, I guess you will have to try one of my recipes again. :) I can cook, I just prefer baking. Here is a recipe that I have been making for years, and am not sure where I got it. Swiss Steak Supper Ingredients: ~ 1 1/2 lbs of boneless beef round steak, cut into six pieces (sometimes I do two pounds.) ~ 1/2 tsp peppered seasoned salt (or just salt and pepper) ~ 6-8 new potatoes, cut into fourths ~ 1 1/2 C. baby carrots ~ 1 medium onion, sliced ~ 1 14 oz. can diced tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano, undrained ~ 1 12oz jar home style beef gravy ~ chopped fresh parsley, if desired 1. Spray 12 inch skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium high heat. Sprinkle beef with seasoned salt. Cook in skillet 6-8 minutes, turning once, until brown. 2. Layer potatoes, carrots, beef, and onion in 4-5 quart slow cooker. Mix tomatoes and gravy; spoon over mixture in slow cooker. 3. Cover and cook on low heat setting 7-8 hours or until beef and vegetables are tender. Sprinkle with parsley. Enjoy! And I always use a slow cooker liner. Clean up is so much easier.

Thank you Dear Pella I, I would like to thank all of my dear church family and friends who brought in food and good things. Casseroles, salads, soup, fresh bread, desserts. It gave Larry and I a good appetite. Also, thanks to those who visited me and to Pastor Brad for his prayers. I give thanks to my Lord and Saviour for his care and healing. God never fails me. Thanks be to Him! ~ Love, Larry and Lavonne To our dear church family, We are so grateful to you all for the cards, visits, flowers, phone calls, help with doctor visits, and especially the prayers said on behalf of Edith as she has been struggling with lingering effects of infection in her knee. It has been a rather long ordeal. Thank you to Pastor Brad and Elder Russ Van Hemert, for their visits and words of encouragement. In our human weakness we sometimes become anxious, but Psalm 139 reminds us that each day of our life is planned, and we are never out of God's sight. We know that God goes before us and has promised never to leave us or forsake us. We are especially grateful that God has been with us through it all and your prayers lifted us up. Please continue to keep Edith in your prayers as she adjusts to living in a care center. ~ Sincerely, Edith and Judy Come and join us for a Praise and Worship Night at First CRC. We will be worshipping as we sing songs together on Tuesday, January 22 from 7-8 pm. This event is open to the whole community, so please come and invite your friends. Hope to see you there! December Visits to our Shut-ins On an afternoon, we visited Edith Meppelink in Osky. She was receiving salon care from daughter Judy, so we visited in the salon. Edith enjoys her care at North Mahaska and says she is determined to get stronger through the therapy that she receives every day. She does enjoy visitors! Grada was doing well and enjoyed our visit. We talked about church activities and the joy of celebrating another Christmas. Ken Van Wyk was alert and was viewing a western on television. He mentioned the large snowfall they had in Osky and was happy he did not have to have a part in removing it from the sidewalks. Things are going well for him, although he did mention that he is bothered with lockjaw in his hands. He was given something to help relieve the problem. Ria Branderhorst welcomed us with coffee time. We had an enjoyable time discussing her convalescence and events taking place in town as well as in church. And the joy of celebrating the birth of Christ. (She did have another black-out spell and had a purple eye to show because of it..still trying to determine the cause of these spells!) Albert Van Zee was alert and eager to talk about old times. He remembers firing a 410 shotgun and having squirrel for dinner!!! Leanna was home, and we discussed the progress the Christmas program is making. We thanked God for the joy of Christmas and the birth of Christ. Bill Van Waardhuizen was finishing his lunch and is doing well. He has a Christmas tree in his room, and one in the dining area. Joyce Lubbers was still in the hospital and awaiting transfer to skilled care. She is doing well, something that takes time. She enjoys visitors and is looking forward to Christmas. Gerald and Ruby Hoekstra shared some experiences of health issues and Ruby s work at the prison in her early years! We discussed church events and the celebration of Christmas. Maryellen and Andy Uitermarkt shared some of their experiences with Andy s sojourn in the many hospitals the last few months. (They have had their share!) We thanked God for improvement in Andy s health, and they too are looking forward to the Christmas season! ~ Case and Helen Vande Ree Ps ~ A sincere thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Vande Ree for taking time out of their schedules to visit the shut-ins. As you can see, our list has grown. Thank you ~ Miss Leanna Page 5 NEWS LE TT ER TI T LE
